This CD is really one for the fans. If you've not watched Stargate SG-1 before, then it will be very limited in its' appeal.
I personally enjoyed the CD, as I could relate the music back to the particular episodes in which they appeared. Some of the tracks are sweet and melodic, others are more ominious, so it doesn't come up short on variety.
The music sounds, for the most part, rather sythesised (which is why, if you are used to sprawling epic soundtracks from mainstram movies, I generally don't recommend this if you have never watched the show). Tracks are usually a mixture of synthesised sounds combined with more organic notes from traditional instruments, creating a very "sci fi" sound.
This is a great CD to work and study to as it provides great background music without being too intrusive.

This is a great CD. Just listing to it makes me feel like I'm watching the show.

Fantastic soundtrack! I love it!!! One of the main reasons to love Stargate - SG1 is the music!!!

As an avid fan of Stargate SG-1, I bought this CD without a second thought.
Thankfully, I was not disappointed. The music is good, but its real strength is its variety. From the intense anticipation of "The Enemy Within", to the grand, yet calm "Nox Theme", this soundtrack just about has it all. Most of the tracks are theme-oriented, with enough variation to keep it from being repetitive.
The only problem with this CD is that it really helps to have seen the episode from which the track is drawn, as the music closely follows the action. Thus, if you have no real exposure to SG-1, this CD loses some (but not all) of its effect.

First, there are two Stargate SG-1 Soundtracks out there, one is just from the Two-Hour pilot film and this one from the first season. I've ordered the Pilot CD, but it hasn't arrived (yet).
However, the Season 1 CD has more variety since it is from several episodes. Its from GNP, the sci-fi soundtrack specialists. In fact, when I bought this CD it was priced promotionally by GNP with a Stargate SG-1 DVD.
This CD sometimes betrays the fact some of the instruments are synthetic, but it seems somehow appropriate for sci-fi.
More important is the music itself, which is often soaring and sometimes moving as it evokes scenes of struggle with the enemies rooted in Egyptian mythology. It is also skillful in its emphasis of wonder at the diversity of the universe.
It is the wonder at the universe and the spirit of discovery that is at the heart of the series (along with the wise-cracks and heroism of Richard Dean Anderson's character). This music is largely used as background but is certainly foreground-worthy and well above similar offerings in the genre.

Be warned, this soundtrack isn't brilliant. It isn't Star Wars, isn't Last of the Mohicans. That said, I enjoyed it quite a bit. The different tracks have distinct atmospheres: compare the brooding "Enemy Within" to the poignant "Cold Lazarus" and the exotic "Hathor." Fans of the movie will be glad to hear old themes, but there's quite a lot of new music too, all blended together quiet skillfully. Some themes turn up several times in every track, but they're varied enough that they don't get repetitive. Maybe it's not brilliant, but it's all enjoyable and some of it quite moving.
