The Dark Knight lives up to its hype. It's no masterpiece, no modern classic, no Memento, but for those looking for a fun, exciting superhero flick, it's hard to beat. It's basically the story of Batman's pursuit of the Joker and Two Face -- but that's not important. The almost uniformly superb cast includes Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Morgan Freeman, Gary Oldman and Michael Caine, all giving flawless performances and brining characters that would otherwise seem silly, to life and that is what sets The Dark Night apart from its contemporaries (with the exception of the extremely fun and enjoyable Spiderman films) and its atrocious predecessor. That's not to say that it doesn't suffer from some of the same problems plaguing most modern superhero flicks (see Watchmen). The problem is (and perhaps it first penetrated the film world with The Dark Knight, but it has been prominent in comics since Watchmen and The Dark Night Returns appeared in 1986) that it takes itself too seriously. It borrows heavily, in a sense, from 1970s grit films (Taxi Driver, in particular), making Gotham city out to be a seedy underworld brimming with amorality and corruption, but it misses, quite ironically but not unexpectedly, the point that Taxi Driver tries to make. That point is that the kind of heroism that Travis shows (and the kind in comic books) is obsessively, even self-consciously violent and is just as dangerous as the criminals he so despises. This is most evident in the scenes from that film where Travis rehearses his tough-guy antics. Not to mention that he arms himself for some kind of destiny, before he knows what that destiny is, until his obsession with doing something 'heroic' with his guns drives him to try to kill an important politician who wants to clean up the streets. The problem with The Dark Knight (and Watchmen more than anything else) is that it tries to replicate the realism of these landmark '70s films, especially Taxi Driver, and have profound meaning while at the same time featuring spandex-clad vigilantes fighting bad guys. In that respect, it seems to miss the fun of comic books and superhero movies. They aren't meant to be depressing and dark. However, the darkness in the Dark Knight does not come close to the level of depression in the far inferior Watchmen. Unlike that film, it does not lose its fun, trying to create profound meaning, and that is why it lives up to its hype.

This movie is action packed with amazing effects. The blue ray quality makes for amazing effects and sound. The story and acting are both good for an action movie.

I saw this series of movies and I thought they were far better than the older batman series. The whole series seems quite nice.

The Dark Knight will soon be out, but there's no need to wait for the Xmas rush to see what people think about this movie, and chances are everyone has seen this except for my dad. But anyways, The Dark Knight, the successful sequel to Batman Begins is a good bit of movie. Although much of it gets a little muddled up by the failure that is the moral dilemma that Bruce Wayne/Batman faces. But the only thing that has to be said about this movie that makes it worth the purchase is Heath Ledger as the Joker. That's all you need to know, Heath Ledger's last memorable roll since I don't think that other movie he was making before his death won't be anything but someones poor joke over why the man killed himself. This movie should've actually been called The Joker, since the entire movie revolves on the clown prince's plan to discredit, villafy and make Batman what the Joker is, a mad exaggeration and extreme of what humanity is. Sadly, the movie itself suffers greatly from a poor script for Bruce Wayne and Batman, Batman's great moral issue comes to ahead with nothing more then a bunch of tears and maybe a little hissy fit, it detracted from the intensity that the subject matter could've taken especially with the powerhouse performance that Ledger put out.

Essentially, all the characters are the same except for the new addition of Harvey Dent aka Two-Face, blech, and the Joker, yippee. Alfred Pennyworth is still spouting out his bland, British words of encourage about when the hero comes the world is alright, or when a man loves a woman. Gary Oldman, Commissioner Gordon is more or less one dimensional, as is every crime boss in the movie. Essentially the problems with the original movies that dealt with Batman will be repeated the series just stinks of that fact, the success of The Dark Knight assures us of another sequel, and hopefully it is not the case but chances are it will be. And basically this movie is saved and carried by Heath Ledger and his Joker.

It is not better than Titanic cuz it is the best movie of all time and forever but the dark night really rocks! It is very good and the best batman movie of the serie! Congratulation!!! / Ce n'est pas le meilleur film de tous les temps car ce titre revient à Titanic qui est le meilleur film, à mes yeux. Mais ce film est très bon et bourré d'action. C'est le meilleur de la saga batman. Félicitation!!
