I have no idea why this book is receiving so many glowing reviews. The new take on vampires was, I suppose, interesting, but the quality of writing was horrible. I know the book is aimed at teenagers, but it sounds as if it has been written by a teenager. The command of prose is substandard and formulaic and, unlike a lot of good YA fantasy fiction, the novel comes across as hackneyed and idiotic. It made me wonder at what nepotism was involved in getting this rag published. now i feel like i'm only reading the wheel of time books out of duty. i started the series when i was in grade eight and now i'm doing my PhD!!! in grade eight i was primarily interested in fantasy and sci-fi and now i'm primarily interested in good literature (including good sci-fi). but i still read this series because i feel like it's my responsibility to finish. grade 8, grade 9-13 (the now extinct thirteenth grade), 4 years in a BA, 2 years in a Masters, almost one year (so far) in a PhD program = 15 years of reading this series! argh!! talk about drawing a story out. usually when i get to the next book (considering the long waits between some of them) i have to spend the first… Read more
