Rescue: A Novel by Anita Shreve
Rescue: A Novel by Anita Shreve
2.0 out of 5 stars I have a theory....., Jan 20 2013
...and this is it: Ms. Shreve had been paid by her publisher in advance and she needed to produce a book quickly in order to fulfill the deal. "Rescue" is the result and I'd say the publisher (not to mention anyone who bought the book) was ripped off. I am an avid reader and have always enjoyed Anita Shreve's books, so much so I would buy them instead of checking them out of the library. I didn't purchase this particular novel, as I have access to free books through the military library. Given that the reviews were poor, thought I would just borrow the book and save my money. Eyewitness Travel Guides Top Ten Vienna by Dorling Kindersley
5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, Sep 14 2012
This book was extremely useful and convenient for a recent trip to Vienna. It was my first purchase of an Eyewitness Top Ten book and won't be my last. I like how compact the book is - took up hardly any space in my day bag. There is just enough info on different sites, etc that it's not an overload. They tell you the high(or low!) points and move on. Perfect. Highly recommend.
Where's Sylvia? by Linda Lamura McFadden
Where's Sylvia? by Linda Lamura McFadden
3.0 out of 5 stars Good story but...., Sep 14 2012
....the writing style became increasingly annoying/distracting as I progressed through the book. Overuse of italics and "quotation marks" around words that were "not" to indicate "someone" was speaking, just simply to put "emphasis" on a "word" or "phrase". (See, isn't that annoying?!) Near the end of the book, I counted 5 sets of quotations marks on less than a half-page of text. Who edited this? Or did anyone do it at all? Despite that, the story was quite something and I agree with another reviewer on amazon.com that this would make an amazing movie.
