For years, I have faithfully taken this book out of the local library. I have learned how to make all my own curry mixes and other wonderful blends and my kitchen is fully stocked with all the magnificent spices of India. I also enjoy the history of India and the stories Ms. Sahni shares with the reader. I finally bought this book and it is a constant companion that helps me plan many delicious vegan meals for family and friends. I do cut back the fat in many recipes and also substitute the dairy products with vegan ones. For those struggling with eating vegetarian, I find vegetarian Indian cooking to be very fulfilling and enjoyable.
This is a "Rube Goldberg" item. A complicated system to do a simple job. Save your money and trust your eyes for thickness with a normal rolling pin. The markings on the pin are so faint they might as well not be there. A dust collector in my kitchen I'm afraid to say.
Like all new appliances I buy, I wonder if I'll really use it enough to make it worthwhile. Well I'm using this daily and getting in greens like kale that I normally wouldn't eat. I take the left over fiber from the fruit and veggies and incorporate it into my diet as well, in soups, biscuits etc. I even just eat the mix as a side dish. I am truly happy with this purchase. The one thing that bothered me after ordering it was Amazon.com sent me an email advertising the chrome version of the J8004- the J8006 for $209.
