Fantastic Entertainment!, Jan 5 2009
This review is from: jPod: Season 1 (DVD)
I don't think, being in England, I have ever come across a show so interesting and original.
Well OK, maybe a couple, but not for a very long time!
Based on Douglas Coupland's 'jPod' book, this series follows the lives of the 'podsters'. A group of people working together after the Y2K glitch caused 'J' surnames to be allocated in one place.
Hence 'J' Pod. They are working together on the creation and development of a highly entertaining, and gore splattered video game.
The story mixes high drama, with humour and some very colourful characters. John Does' mothers lesbian group for example. Or Kam Fong.
The DVD set itself looks lovely. Clear case with internal cover pictures showing through. Animated DVD menus to mimic the opening credits are also used to full effect.
Many of the episodes come with a 'Deleted Scenes' option that carry a few odd gems. And also on the 3rd disk, a short 'Gag Reel' and 'Bonus Interstitials' round things up together. The interstitials are strangely hypnotic. Then we have the 'Bonus Animations' selection. This basically is the 'Sprite Quest' demo video with music as featured in one episode.
And I have to add, it seems the 'DVD Pressing Error' people have mentioned has been rectified. I have had no problems playing the disk in question on my DVD player.
A good DVD, a fantastic show! Shame that there seems to be no continuation in sight.

sweet, scintillating, superb, Aug 8 2008
This review is from: jPod: Season 1 (DVD)
jPod, the DVD created from the CBC television series based on Douglas Coupland's novel of the same name, is a sweet, scintillating and
entertaining drama about a group of young computer experts put together to
create a video game. It is often wildly funny, satirical without being cynical, an up-to-date version of the human comedy set on the west coast of Canada, using local types and settings to display both the latest and the oldest of human quirks and longings. Its hero is an appealing embodiment of the good guy who finds himself in some strange predicaments and he is surrounded by a brilliant cast of characters, virtuoso in their variety. I loved watching the TV show and I have bought the DVD.

Repressing coming??, Oct 23 2008
This review is from: jPod: Season 1 (DVD)
Is the continued non-availability related to the authoring error on disc 2? Anyone know if there are plans to release a fixed version so that episode 8 ("The Last Shot") will play properly? (5 stars for the show, -2 stars for the faulty DVD release)
