5.0 out of 5 stars Don't miss this book!, Mar 7 1999

This review is from: A man for Megan (Paperback)
From the back cover copy and front teaser, this looked like a standard "wealthy foreigner sweeps naive American girl off her feet" type of story. Then I read the opening line: "The walls surrounding Gilgamesh were smooth." Gilgamesh? I checked the back cover again. I checked the front. I checked the editor's dedication. Intrigued, I read on... and on... and finally put the book down at 3 am, after being unable to even consider stopping. This is a delightful genie romance, handled with deft wit and a knack for transforming the everyday into the absurd. (The genie is housed, not in a lamp, but in a crock pot.) Add to the mix a conflict straight out of the headlines, involving plant closings and hazardous waste, and you've got a real winner! This is Ms. Scalera's first book, and I look forward to reading many more by her.

3.0 out of 5 stars There was nothing he wouldn't give her..., Sep 3 2007

For Megan Kelly, the small town of Shady Hook offered the comfort of kind neighbors, and the safety of long-time friends - it was enough. Then there was Gino, who with the commanding air of an Arabian aristocrat, the playfulness of a regular guy and the intensity of a serious man made Megan realize that smoldreing kisses should be a major food group.

He showered her with attention, lavished her with passion, hot and wild, and spoiled her body for any other touch but his. Gino denied her nothing, but demanded from her everything. Only, could Megan ever give him her heart?

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure Magic, Feb 3 1999

Darlene Scalera's first novel is the kind of great read American Romance just doesn't publish anymore. All Megan Kelly wanted was a crock pot. What she got was a sexy jinni (or a genie for us mere mortals) with an attitude. And it isn't long before Gino has turned her life completely upside down--and worked his way into her heart forever.

For those of us who miss the "Heartbeat" stories American Romance used to sell, "A Man for Megan" is a welcome return to that kind of book. It really is--pardon the phrase--magical. For the most part, it's laugh-out-loud funny, and yet there are moments of such sheer beauty and romanticism that I was swept away (LOVED when Gino took Megan to various exotic locales in his attempt to get her to make her wishes...and she taught him a lesson or two about happiness). There are plenty of steamy moments, and the love story works up to a big emotional climax that's not to be missed. Scalera may be new, but she's got such a clear voice and strong ability at both humor and romance that I can't wait for her next book.
