Sometimes its best to leave accents unattempted, and that may be the case in this first mystery by bestselling author Linda Greenlaw. Narrator Sandra Burr reads most of the story, set on a fictional Maine island, perfectly well, but her version of the famous Downeast accent would be better toned down--a lot. That aside, her characterization of ex-cop Jane Bunker, who has moved to a quiet Maine town for a fresh start, is lively and believable. And her upbeat narration of what happens when Jane stumbles on a dead body is entertaining. This is a light, pleasant book, well suited for vacation listening. I'm not a fan of mysteries, but I am a fan of Linda Greenlaw, so I picked this up. There were characters and some other things she didn't follow through on, but it looks like she's planning to make it a series, so I assume they'll turn up in another book. The descriptions of boats and fish factories, and life in small town coastal Maine were interesting. If she writes a sequel I'll read it.
