Product Description

The step-by-step techniques featured in this richly illustrated book take the beginner who knows little about wirework on a journey to creating artistic and unique free-form jewellery. Using round wire that is readily available and economically viable, wireworkers learn everything from how to hold pliers to how to make ear wires, hook-and-eye closures, and cages for marbles and cabochons. Line drawings, photographs of finished objects, and a wirework gallery of pieces by the author and other contemporary wirework artists provide sample creations and ideas for the innovative wireworker.


About the Author

Mark Lareau is a wirework artist who teaches workshops around the country and at his bead shop, the Bead Factory. He lives in Tacoma, Washington.

This is a superb book for someone who has never done wire work before. I bought it to use for beading and found the instructions clear and simple to follow and the projects totally doable. I would have loved to know about the techniques regarding the beautiful works of art at the back, but that is not the purpose of the book. I have been shown, albeit very quickly, how to make a loop before, but seeing the proper instructions and the wrong types of loops (I have made them all) and then trying to make them perfectly round (I am almost there) has become almost an obsession! Just looking at the beautiful, perfectly round loops in the book makes one want to improve. It is such a simple thing, but something that is needed in almost any bracelet or necklace one makes and he taught it so well.

Anyway, I can highly recommend this to any beginner who wants to learn to do it properly or an intermediate wire worker who was not well taught before.

This is by far the best instructional book on any topic I've ever seen. With clear diagrams and beautiful color illustrations, Lareau teaches with humor. His text instructions are easy to understand. He has rekindled my interest in jewelry making, and I searched for supplemental books. I've perused about a dozen similar books in the bookstore and came to the conclusion that in "All Wired Up," I already have all I'll ever need. Lareau teaches the basics in such a way that after practicing and mastering his basic techniques, I know that I have enough knowledge and skill to create my own designs. I find that I can simply look at a picture of a wired piece and easily figure out how it is made. The book is of benefit to the beginner and experienced wireworker alike, since Lareau also teaches how to improve upon one's current technique - and frequently proves that his way is better. The list price is a bit high, but well worth it.

Loaded with clear illustration and instructions, this book is great for the beginning wire worker. If beadwork is more your thing than still check this book out. You can learn to make findings, including great clasps, to go with your beadwork. The tools required for the projects are not hard or expensive to secure. Also no soldiering required for the projects either, which makes them easy to do with just a little working space.
