Description

DVD - Cult Classic - Meet the Feebles, a puppet tragedy of gross proportions, relates the fateful events that lead to the infamous Feebles Variety Massacre - a day that rocked the puppet world!

Review

Poor taste is a something easy to achieve on screen, but difficult to do truly artfully. Beyond the work of John Waters (who has made bad taste his raison d'tre), one would be hard pressed to find a better example of the creative pinnacle of being gleefully foul than Peter Jackson's "puppets gone to Hell" gross-out comedy, Meet the Feebles. While Meet the Feebles has enough gory violence, icky bodily substances, cross-species sexual contact, foul language, and unapologetic criminality to appall most ordinary audiences (and, as legend has it, to cause Jim Henson's organization to consider possible legal action), the film is far too imaginative and intelligent to sit comfortably alongside, say, Shallow Hal or American Pie. Wynard the Frog's Vietnam flashbacks are both wickedly funny and more politically astute than anything in The Deer Hunter, Harry the Rabbit's extended bout with a sexually transmitted disease is a more honest and gut-wrenching depiction of AIDS than you'll see in most major studio films concerning the subject, and the numerous sexual peccadilloes and flagrant infidelities go past soap-opera level into something that approximates real human anger and anguish, albeit on a broadly comic level. And the sheer scale of the film goes beyond the parameters of a simple bad joke into something that inspires a sort of grimy awe. If you've read this far, you've probably already figured out that Meet the Feebles is not for everyone, but it's a superb slice of wickedly black satire for folks who like their humor to burn a bit on the way down. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

1.0 out of 5 stars There are 2 DVDs of the same movie, which do I chose?, April 19 2004
By Robert E. Bohling (Arvada, Colorado) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Meet the Feebles (DVD)
I love this movie and have it on VHS. One of the best moives ever. Currently, I want to purchase this movie on DVD to expand my collection of DVDs; except there are two DVDs to chose from. Now I have read and tried to find this movie through many rental stores just so that I can compare the two different DVDs, but I had no luck in finding any of these version of DVDs. Next, I found these reviews on this site describing to be unhelpful because one would say how the poor quality of sound and picture are and says how prestine this DVD is. In both cases, all of these reviews shown are irrelevent and will not be helpful in finding an excellent DVD like any other DVD, (such as the Matrix). Also, I know this is not an official review, rather a case where sites and information cetners are ignorant or will not display the quality of a product caption along with the product trying to be sold. It makes me so mad that out of 134 reviews and purchases made by the 'reviewers' are not able to give accurate information reguarding the quality of a DVD and to wich the item was purchased from.

Overall, all of these reviewers display their ignorance because no site is willing to give the quality conditions of the "Meet The Feebles" DVD. In other words, ignorance leads to ignorance and so on.

This review, ((comment)), is no intended to heed my frustrations against the other reviewers, but at the fact there is no information to display the quality this DVD is in.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great movie, horrible dvd, Jan 30 2008
By Jeremy Plante "Rollstuhlwolf" (Calgary, Alberta) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I just received my copy of Meet the Feebles which I ordered through Amazon.ca. It arrive promptly and looked to be legitimate. But watching the dvd I realized how bad the color, audio, and resolution was. I thought perhaps just because it was an old movie and made overseas that it may have had poor production quality. But near the end I noticed what looks like a VHS tape fast forwarding for 3 seconds. This DVD is obviously a VHS copy cheaply transfered to DVD and slapped together with some lousy menu titles. I was thoroughly disappointed.

The movie is great and hard to come by. I've wanted a copy for years, and this is the only version I've been able to find. I'm not sure what happened or if they will replace it for me... but in the meantime I'd like to warn people that you may not be getting what you paid for with this particular item.

5.0 out of 5 stars AMAZING! GOOD AUDIO TOO!, Jul 14 2005
By Troy Miles (Ontario, Canada) - See all my reviews
I purchased my copy from Amazon, and dispite what had been written in the past reviews, Amazon supplies a copy that has really good audio quality. It has been digitaly remastered and has enhanced audio. This movie is great! I enjoy and collect odd/twisted movies, and this is a prize find! If you buy 1 movie this year, make sure it's MEET THE FEEBLES!!! I also suggest you get it through amazon, strictly based on past reviews of copies purchased elsewhere. If you know of any other odd, twisted or evil-over the edge movies (other than "I spit on your grave") please e-mail titles to TMILES7@COGECO.CA Thanks, hope you enjoy this video
