5.0 out of 5 stars Great, fantastic, enjoyable read, Nov 10 2007

Every time I mention that the fact that I admire "Gordon Ramsay" I have to defend myself from attack. For those who have seen this ex-football player in the television show "Hell's Kitchen", he can be intimidating, ruthlessly efficient and sarcastic all in one breath. But his attitude does not come from any joy of berating contestants. Gordon is a perfectionist and he wants to make sure everything is done right because it is his name and reputation that is on the line every time a dish leaves his kitchen. This book is no different. Ramsay's passions and humor translate well onto the page...also sheds a completely different light on his life. I can't put it down.
Also recommended, the book Understanding: Train of Thought.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great insight into the business of 'Gordon Ramsay', Mar 31 2009

This review is from: Playing With Fire (Hardcover)
Playing With Fire was a fairly easy read for me. I have always been a fan of Gordon Ramsay the person (not just Gordon Ramsay the Chef) and when I read the back cover of the book it was exactly what I was looking for. This was not a book of recipes and cooking techniques showcasing his incredible cooking abilities, this was penned as a look into the incredible business built around the 'Gordon Ramsay' name.
The pages flew by as I carefully followed the quick rise of a very hard working perfectionist who has an ability above many others to surround himself with the right people for the job time and time again. Tidbits of information about his upbringing and his current family life tell readers that he holds both in high regard but do not get the story twisted... this is a business book through and through.
I believe that most business owners could easily take something home from reading this book and I recommend it to all start-ups and small business owners. You get a real good idea for the amount of hard work, risk, trials and determination that Gordon Ramsay went through to get to where he stands today.
