4.0 out of 5 stars Stupendous Book- A Must Read, April 30 2004
By A Customer
The book "My Brother Sam Is Dead" is a very heart-warming book. It is about family who is broken up by the Revolutionary War. The father is on the British side while his son, Sam, is fighting for the Patriots. It is very dramatic and has some older language. It is also gory and intense. This book is very descriptive in its war parts, which is awesome.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good book., Mar 31 2004

My Brother Sam is dead was a good book. L liked the book becouse it took place in a setting was very discriptive. I liked the fact that a family in it fought for each other. Even when they disagrea on a lot of topics. The book has a good sence of humer for how seriose the topic of the story. Like when Sam was talking about stealing Old Bess (the gun) wile putting chicken eggs in a basket with holes in the bottom of it. The book is the third most favorite book I read this year. The book cept its carictors vary discriptive and interesting through the hole book. But the oldest sun Sam gets in trubble with the law. He gets exicuted. That was the only part of the story I was not interested in. Since the famaly was so close or becoase he was so nise he didn't even commit the crime. His father tries to help even though they don't always get along all the time.

I read, My Brother Sam Is Dead. I liked this book a lot. It is not the usual kind of books I read but I really enjoyed this book. It kept me just wanting to keep on reading it was so good. A lot of unexpected things happened in the story.

All Tim Meeker's life, Tim looked up to his brother, Sam. Sam is very smart and brave and always knows the right thing to do. In fact, everyone in Redding admired Sam Meeker... until now.
Now Sam is part of the American revolutionary army. He talks about defeating the British and becoming independent and free. However, not everyone in town wants to be a part of this new America. Most people are loyal supporters of the English King, especially Tim and Sam's father.
The war is raging and Tim knows he'll have to make a choice. However, how can he choose- when it means fighting his father on one side and fighting is brother on the other?

I would recommend this book to everyone. This is almost all the genres. Mystery, historical fiction, suspense and sad. It's a GREAT book. I hope you read... MY BROTHER SAM IS DEAD.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Brother Sam Is Dead ---> Loved it!, Mar 22 2004
By A Customer
I had to read this book in my fifth grade class, and didn't think much of it. Now I am in seventh grade and understand things much better. I thought this book was great. It contained some bad language in places, and was pretty gory in others. I best recommend this book to ages 8 and up. Overall, I think that this book was fantastic, due to it's drama. Christopher Collier captured what it was like for famlies back in the days of war.

5.0 out of 5 stars for the people by the people, Mar 22 2004

Book is a great book for all ages. It shows the controversy that one family goes through when one member thinks that what the rebels are fighting for is right and another member doesn't. it also represents the confusion of one boy that does not understand just what it is that his brother is fighting for or hopes to accomplish by fighting against an army more than twice the size of the one he is fighting in.

This book was pretty good. It does have some language if you haven't heard. It is about a boy named Tim and his father and everyone else in the town is a torie. Except his brother, Sam, that takes his father's gun's and joins the continental army against his fathers wishes. Now Tim wants to do what his brother did but he doesn't want to disapoint his father. So now he is faced with a tough decision...

My Brother Sam is Dead by James Lincoln Collier is a great war novel. It is based during the Revolutinary War. Tim's brother Sam is a Rebel and his Father being a Patriot is tearing and pulling him a part. Tim is the youngest and doesn't want to chose between his brother and his father. Overall, i think this book was interesting because of the real events it mentioned in the book. Just one of the story elements in this book is Suspense.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Super Ultra Mega Bad Review with Krunk Style, Mar 17 2004

I Thought that this was a very good book in the Climax of the Revolutionary War. It is about a young Tim Meeker who at first is a very normal boy in that time, but one day his brother runs away from home to join the Continental Army. So Tim is stuck with all the chores to do. I could Reflect to this because usually my sister never does any of the chores at home, so I am stuck doing all the chores. A suspenseful part in the book is when Tim and Tim's Father are Driving Cattle to a Northern City,

when they are jumped by Cowboys and they are left in the Freezing Cold with Nothing.

4.0 out of 5 stars A review by a teenage History Buff, Mar 17 2004
This book is about a young boy who has grown up in a Tory town all of his life. He is at the age where he begins to wonder if what his father believes is right. Then his big brother Sam leaves to fight for the continental army and Tim cant decide which side to be on. Tim decides that Sam is right because of something that happens to one of his Tory friends, but then something happens to his father to make him think that the British way is right. This book contains a great element of suspense because you can never know what is going to happen next.
