I know that there are some that say this book is not worth the money because a lot of the patterns are available at the online magazine. Well it is true that the patterns are available for free, but I didn't buy this book just for the patterns.

I was looking forward to this book, but after seeing it, I am not impressed. I like the online magazine, from which this book was born. Knitty.com is generally very good and always has patterns of interest, so this book is a real disapointment.

I know that there are some that say this book is not worth the money because a lot of the patterns are available at the online magazine. Well it is true that the patterns are available for free, but I didn't buy this book just for the patterns.

I was impressed by the great knitting instructions, the clear guidlines and the lovely pictures in this book. I will get hours of fun and inspiration from it. Even if the patterns are available elsewhere they are not in a format where you can stand them up beside you on the couch while you knit, as you can with this books build in easel, nor are any print-outs I have managed as nice a quality as this book is.

The style of book is unique, the patterns are fun, the instructs are good and clear. This is a lovely book just right for those who want to sit with a friend and learn to knit something new.

I was looking forward to this book, but after seeing it, I am not impressed. I like the online magazine, from which this book was born. Knitty.com is generally very good and always has patterns of interest, so this book is a real disapointment.

There are two patterns in here that are fresh and creative designs and they are both from the online magazine. Knitty.com is free so why buy the book? I gave it two stars because the two patterns that are good would be worth the price if I hadn't already downloaded them for free.

The rest of the patterns are stock psuedo hip knitting cliches. The water bottle caddy and the yoga mat carrier are two examples. Neither are particularly interesting in their design. I hardly need another bag to carry a discreet item. What knitters really need is an large, attractive handbag pattern that will carry books and other every day items. I'm a fairly bad knitter and an even worse designer and I could have come up with some of these patterns. It was as if they looked at every other knitting book targeted at the modern urban demographic and decided to publish more of the same.

Other patterns were just strange. The ice cream container cosy was taking it a bit far.

I'm also sick of the knitted bra! Once (or twice) was funny, but now it is a cliche for these psuedo hip pattern books. Especially since so few readers will expend the effort knitting up such an impractical piece.

Stick to the magazine. It's free, fun and worth your time.
