I Had to Force Myself to Finish Reading It,

I'm really not looking for a whole lot when I read these types of books but this was really bad with a few flashes of brilliance. The hero is absolutely in love with another woman for most of the book and in a blink of an eye marries the heroine without any problem. It wasn't believable at all. The heroine's chaperone (who makes up a subplot) can't jump into the bed of the man who said very cruel things to her charge fast enough. It's quite bizarre how the heroine gets assaulted by one man and marries another all while the chaperone is knocking boots, unaware of what's happening.I don't hold these books to high standards, I just enjoy them for what they are, but this one left me with a bad taste in my mouth. In the first few chapters is written quite well. I don't know what happened to the author after that.

Out of the four Essex sisters, only Josie remains unwed. After turning one suitor down ("Berwick"), the so called gentleman had Lord Charles Darlington come up with a horrid nickname for Josie. Thus Josie is known as "the Scottish Sausage"! Ironically, Josie resembles the nickname only because she stuffs herself into a corset. She is more beautiful than anyone seems to realize.Garret Langham, the Earl of Mayne, is a close friend of Josie's. He tutors Josie on the arts of flirtation and poise. Others begin a make over, teaching Josie what clothing compliments her natural figure. Once done, the nickname is useless as a taunt. Problem is that Thurman believes himself to be the next witty nicknamer. In fact, Thurman believes himself even better than Darlington and he has decided to give Josie an even worse nickname, giving himself a grand reputation. But Josie's transformation ruins his plans. Thurman soon believes Josie is responsible for all his failures ... **** The author never conceals Thurman's hatred for Josie, so I do not feel as though I have given out any spoilers. More is going on within this novel's plot and sub-plots than I let on. I was delighted with a few twists and surprises along the way. Each chapter begins with a snippet from an anonymous earl's memoirs about the women he has bedded in his life. All through the book, everyone (male and female alike) are trying to figure out WHO the author is. Also, Darlington is the rare leopard that actually changes its spots. I felt as though watching his transformation, in various sections of the story, was one of the high points within the entire novel, second only to Thea's transformation.
