5.0 out of 5 stars Mmm... Official Episode Guide...
"The Simpsons: A Complete Guide to Our Favourite Family" is as info-packed and as fun as it can possibly be.

This book covers the first ten years of the cartoon, every episode from the early Tracey Ullman shorts (1987) to the 8th series (1997). Each full length episode is covered in a very colourful page or two. Each has it's own outline, set of screenshots,...

3.0 out of 5 stars The print is too small.
If the print were bigger, I'd love this book. It's comprehensive, funny, and informative. But unless you have particularly sharp eyes, it is too uncomfortable to read. I couldn't finish it, and wish I hadn't bought it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mmm... Official Episode Guide..., April 29 2004

Each has it's own outline, set of screenshots, the featured chalkboard gag, and array of the most memorable quotes (and songs, if any) from the episode. Dotted around are lists of popular culture references. as well as a box featuring thing to look out for in each episode, such as funny stuff in the background. (This makes watching the old episodes all the more fun)

But that's not all. Dotted through the book are character profiles on all your favourites Springfield citizens - Mr Burns, Chief Wiggum, Krusty - and even some that you might have forgotten. Remember Frank Scorpio, or Dr Foster? This guide does!

Wedged in between season listings are all sorts of fun facts. Who plays what voice, how many times has Homer said "mmm" or "d'oh!", an Itchy and Scratchy episode guide and so much more!

This book one of the most colourful, easy to read and enjoyable episode guides there's ever been. It's like watching the show, but without the TV. Fans of the Simpsons will never tire of this book, I should know. My copy has been VERY well read. Ideal for a birthday or christmas gift.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Book Ever, Dec 20 2003

I've had this book for real long time, I've must've read it over 100 times now. A Complete *not so Complete* Guide has every episode from the very first season when it was just shorts on the Tracy Ullman to season eight in which what I think is the best seasons ever, In the book it has extras like: Homer's Doh's, Bart's Chalkboard sayings, The Complete guide to Krusty's stuff, Stuff you may have missed, quotes, and MORE!!! and features the classic episodes that made the Simpsons what they are today, this is the motherload for all the simpson geeks like me, and a must have!

4.0 out of 5 stars For all Simpsons Fans, Jun 15 2003
This review is from: The Simpsons: A Complete Guide to Our Favorite Family (Paperback)
I always wanted to get this book since it came out but just never got around to it until now. Well, I got it dirt cheap but I'm still pleased to have it.

In order, every episode from 1989 to the 1998 season is covered in this book. Each show is given a plot synopsis, funniest lines in quotations, trivia notes and in-joke references along with pictures and cast details. Every page margin has a special section for one-off or returning cameo characters such as Gil or Handsome Pete. The trivia comes in sections called 'Stuff you may have missed' but most of it is easy to spot first time you watch the episodes. The real subtle humor is mostly left out and I can't imagine why this is.

Once each individual season is cover a double page spread is devoted to such whacky stuff as 'The Signs of Springfield'. Anyone who watches the show will know that there is some pretty weird stuff written over the town such as 'Costingtons-Over 200 years without a slogan' or 'Don't eat beef...eat deer'.

Matt Groening designed this book himself and he's done a cool job. It's easy to read and quickly accessible as a reference guide. There are two more books so far in this series that cover the seasons since 1998. I'll get round to buying them someday coz if they are exactly like this then they are definitely worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Trivia Galore for Seasons 1-8, April 2 2003

A lot of ground is covered in this single volume. Each episode has one or two pages formatted in a consistant fashion. You can find information about guest stars, music, cultural references, and the best lines of dialog for each episode. You'll also see which episode a character first appeared in.

The information in this book is nothing you can't already find on the Internet. It is, however, arranged well, in a user-friendly design.

You're not going to get many behind the scenes insights into The Simpsons, but you will have a handy, dandy reference that you'll want to consult before watching a rerun. Reading about the episode before watching it again allows you to see so much more that you might have missed the first fifty times you saw a paritcular episode.

Essentially, this is the owner's manual to seasons 1-8.

I have seen and recorded every episode in this guide and this guide pointed out everything that I needed to know. From the stuff I missed to couch gags I pretty much know everything about these episodes and I thank this guide. I suggest you buy this as soon as possible!

5.0 out of 5 stars I, Simpson, Nov 29 2002

As the Simpsons television show continuess to air fresh episodes, as well as daily reruns in syndication, much like a fine wine-it gets better with age. The first guidebook illustrates just how clever and funny the show actually is. Taking readers from the early shorts that used to air as part of "The Tracy Ulman Show", their first Christmas Special, up through season 8, the book is must for any fan. Jam packed with episode synopses, memorable lines, sight gags, stuff you might have missed, guest stars, the number of times Homer says "D'oh" and "Mmm..." and more minutia than you might remember, the book has it all. Each episode of the show, has one or two pages of the guide, devoted to it. I found it to be a real testament to the creative minds behind the series. It's great to have around if your watching an episode and want to know all about that particular show. Full color and more detailed than it ever deserves to be, the companion does not disappoint. If you are a fellow Simpson-nite like me, this book is better than eating a dozen donuts, all by yourself (well almost anyway). If you are new to the show, or just a casual fan, this book is a great way to catch up on what you missed out on all these years. Creator Matt Groening penned the book's introduction and despite a few minor editing errors, this 249 page book, is still highly recommended

This is NOT another dumb 20 page simple guide!
But this book is not only high quality, you can be asured that it's one of the best guides to the Simpsons because Matt Greoning made the book himself!

The Simpsons is my very favorite show.

This book is great if you are looking for a lot of detailed and interesting information about the Simpsons. I was kind of hoping for more full page size pictures, but there are alot of good pictures, just small ones. If you are a Simpsons fan you have to get this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simpsons Trivia Nirvana - the early seasons, Aug 14 2002

Simply the best show on television.

This book makes the perfect companion to the growing DVD release of the Simpsons. At heart, a simple episode guide for fans of the show, but it delves so much further. For a smart show like the Simpsons, so much is put into the small throwaway gags, or the cultural and cinematic references. This book pulls them all together for you. Indispensable to go over what you saw, and what you might have missed. Read sequentially to see the development of the show, or jump from episode to episode, splitting your sides laughing at the antics. For a show coming up on 300 episodes, there is enough detail and gags to fill a half dozen shows. Viva La Simpsons!
