Probably the most boring 24 book that I've read [and I've read most of them].

First, the author didn't follow the "standards" used from previous books by him and the other authors. Each chapter doesn't seem to be an hour in a day.

Jack is barely in the book. In comparison, he is generally in most of the book in previous books. Even the local CTU center is barely used after the initial few chapters and even then not the local versions of Chloe, Mylo and the others.

Too much long ramblings that didn't have to be included.

1.0 out of 5 stars Like a padded college essay, April 4 2008

Far too much poorly written descriptive detail was included, killing the pacing of the novel -- almost every page reminded me of the way college students pad their essays to reach their target page count. Also, important plot points were explained in anticlimatic ways, and Jack Bauer wasn't even the center of the action. Maybe that was intentional, but then it just reinforced the feeling that this might have been a first time author's bad noir book being converted into a 24 novel.
Anyway, skip it.

I didn't enjoy this installment of the series as much as the previous ones. I found it to be a little drawn out and way too much description of every little thing. The previous novels held the fast pace intensity of the show, where has this one lagged. I also found it baffling that it didn't fall into place with the other novels. Where as they take place long before Day 1 of the series, this one was held right smack dab in the middle of the show, which was a bit confusing. If you love these novels then you'd probably want it for your collection, but otherwise I'd say skip it. Wait for Marc Cerasini's next installment due in February.
