Meh ....,

Mad at myself for wasting money on this cookbook. I found the recipes over simplistic ... really, eggs in a hole?? ... and I found nothing new or exciting about the recipes. Most of the recipes can be found on her website, I wish she would have added more new recipes to the collection and did away with a lot of the pictures, then maybe it would have been worth buying. I buy cookbooks for the recipes, not for the photography. If I want photographs of non-recipe related items then I buy a book for that and not for recipes. I think she missed the mark. I went to the local used book store and found several copies of the cookbook for much cheaper .... obviously others are not thrilled with it either.

This book was so disappointing. When I buy a cookbook, I want a cookbook...full of recipes. Instead, what I got was a family photo album with some recipes thrown in. Way too many photos and stories that have nothing to do with the recipes and way too many photos of the cooking process - very distracting.

I am a fan of the author's blog, which is a wonderful resource. Ree Drummond writes her blog with a huge amount of tongue-in-cheek humour and great photos that follow each step of each recipe. One could not possibly go wrong following one of her recipes. Her first cookbook is written much in the same way....with a good amount of humour, wonderful photos (the author is also the photographer), and great recipes that are a blend of country style, ethnic and other mixes. That Ms. Drummond is smitten with her ranch life, her Marlboro man and her kids is obvious, both in the cookbook and on her blog. If you are looking for a cookbook that contains only recipes, you may just be disappointed in this book. However, if you are looking to experience an adventure whilst looking for a perfect recipe, you'll love this book.

I loved this cookbook. Ree Drummond makes me feel like we are friends cooking in her kitchen. The recipes are in no way fat free but as a special treat they are fabulous! I have tried many of them and have not come across one yet that I didn't love.I have recommended to all my friends!

I have been an avid follower of Pioneer Woman's blog for the past couple of years, and I can now say that I am an avid fan of her cookbook. I love how she showcases each recipe with full-colour, step-by-step detail making it easy to follow along. Her style of cooking is all about slowing down, relishing the joys of family, nature, great food and enjoying life. Now that's what I'm talking about.

I absolutely LOVE this book.,

My mom has been going to [...] for some time now. She would tell me about Ree, stuff she wrote on her blog, etc. She bought the cookbook and after flipping through it, I decided that I needed to own it myself! I have never been a big cook, but this book is full of so many tasty recipes, that it inspired me to start! You will absolutely love this woman. She is hilarious and heartwarming, she takes wonderful photographs, and she is so identifiable. I bought this book for my best friend for Christmas, and now she's hopped on board The Pioneer Woman train! She recruited her mother, who then bought the book for her sister. I also follow Ree on Twitter. Her tweets are just as funny and I always look forward to what she'll write next. The book itself is total eye candy - full-colour pages, amazing photography, funny anecdotes and bits about her life on a ranch. What's not to love? I highly recommend this book to EVERYONE!

A real family-friendly cookbook,

I never heard of The Pioneer Woman before buying this book. But now I am a big fan. I love the recipes in this cookbook although I remain somewhat baffled by a "sheet cake", maybe it is a southern States thing. Everything I have made and I have made quite a bit my entire family loved, loved, loved. They do usually eat like pigs but they don't always love, love, love everything I make :D Some of my new standbys have become jalapeno poppers and hot artichoke dip and prune cake and ...I also am now enjoying her blog - where she has recipes, photography tips, etc. Sometimes she can make me laugh so hard at the computer I just have tears streaming down my face. This book and her blog are just great! |
