Ok, well I am a big series reader. I love the Redwall series and have read books 1-6. Coming on book 7 I had to do a book report but I didn;t want to do it on the Bellmaker because I would have had to explain the other books and I didn't fell like doing that. So I quit reading the series and yesterday night I finally started with the Bellmaker and finished just now. Well,...

The Bellmaker is a fantastic book with a dazzling array of characters. The story begins when Joseph, the bellmaker, has a dream in which a warrior mouse tells him that he must go to his daughter, Mariel, who is in grave danger. A bloodthirsty fox, the Urgan Nagru, has stormed Castle Floret with his horde of menacing rats. Joseph arrives to help Mariel, who is trapped within Castle Floret, but can he save his daughter and her companions, Dandin, a warrior mouse, and Meldrum the Magnificent, a brave hare, and all the good creatures of Southsward from an evil fox?

The Bellmaker relies heavily on the personalities in this book. The book revolves around the wit, charm, and resourcefulness of the characters, making you turn the pages with eager fingers.

This book is marvelous. I loved reading it and finding out the ending. The sharp twists and turns of this book will keep you guessing all the time. That's why I think, like Meldrum the Magnificent would say, that this book is a "jolly good wheeze, wot?"

This book was like almos tthe same as Mariel of Redfwall except Joseph was rescuing Mariel besides Mariel rescuing him. Redwall of course was going to get taken over(getting kinda old don't you think) and their best warriors were gone(shocking!). Don't get me wrong the book was great, the desriptions were awesome, just need a new plot system. Goob book in all.

4.0 out of 5 stars Clare's review, May 20 2004

This is a great book from The Redwall series. The series has no order and you can read them in any order you like. This is the first book that I have read in this series and I thought it was great.

At the beginning, it confuses you a little (unless you have read other books in this series) because it jumps from place to place, but only to give you information on the problem in the story. By the fifth or sixth chapter, it starts to come together. This book is full of adventure and fighting, and it gets you hooked and you just can't stop reading. Throughout the story, there is great description. There is so much that I can't choose my favorite scene.

The only bad thing about this book is that there are so many characters that are just thrown in, that it confuses you. But for the most part, this is a great book.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW!!!, Mar 30 2004

The Bell Maker by Brian Jacques is an exciting tale of adventure, friendship, and heroes. (...) I haven't finished the book yet, but right now she is trapped in the castle with her friends, fighting off the vermin. There are 12 books in the Redwall series and I have loved reading every one of them. The story is kind of repetitive, heroic mouse defeats a tyrant and his horde, but Brian Jacques makes the characters and storylines different enough that they are enjoyable to read. I love the descriptions of the characters and scenery and the rhymes and songs Brian Jacques puts in the books. For example the dibbuns (baby animals) sing,
"Give us dinner every eve,
Or we'll pack our bags and leave,
Where we go to we don't know,
Up the path a league or so,
If we don't find comfort there,
Back to Redwall we'll repair,
We'll eat pudding, pie, and cake,
All the Abbey cooks can make!"

I also love the wonderful Abbey feasts with amazing descriptions of food, so amazing that you can see the food in front of you and the creatures around you! I also like how Brian Jacques makes the "world" seem medieval and with out humans.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Bellmaker, Dec 7 2003
By A Customer
Let me start off by saying one thing, if you haven't read Mariel of Redwall, definetly don't read this book, ever untill you have read Mariel of redwall. This book is the sequesl to Mariel of Redwall, and if you don't unterstand how the 7th book in a series can be the sequel to the 4th book in a series ( To all redwall fans, this may sound silly but at the beginning the concept is really complicated) then start of by reading redwall, and then mossflower. This book starts out with Mariel and Dandin in Soutsward finding out about Urgan Nagru and trying to stop him with the help of some creatures from rredwall, and some other creatures. A lot of the book is devoted to the redwaller's trip to southsward, and meanwhile all the creatures and southsward trying to stop Urgan Nagru. I really like this book, but it was confusing to me at first. I almost even cried, but once you get the hang of it the book becomes less confusing. It is like that with all redwall books, but for me this one in particular. Everything is great though, except the map. I wish we could see how southsward is in relation with all of redwall, but I bet I could find that in the redwall mape and Riddler.

If I could, I would give this book 20 stars. This is my favorite book from the Redwall series. I read it in 2 days and I am 10 years old! It's amazing and action-packed. I would recommend it to anyone, even if you are NOT a Redwall fan. And again, this book deserves 1,000/5 stars. READ IT!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Book by Brian Jacques, April 24 2003
By A Customer
I really think The Bellmaker is a really good book for people who like adventure books. But, itï¿s also sad. When Finnbarr Galedeep died. I almost cried. They stayed on the ship to long thatï¿s when it got boring. Who would have thought Redwallers would steel.

The book I read is called The Bellmaker. It was publishedin 1994 and one out of a giant series called Redwall. The author is Brian Jacques, one of the greatest authors of all time I might add. The characters include Joseph the Bellmaker, Finbar Galeep,Dandin of Redwall and Mariel the warrior maid. The book is about a fantasy land where animals are the domant race and when a fearless warrior maid that will stop at nothing to free Southwards from a evil war lord named Foxwolf and his daedly mate Silvermord. The book is also about friendship, bravery and courage. Mariel accomplishes all here goals but I'm not going into the detail. Mariel learns that killing is very sad and after a battle she becomes wise and and skilled with a notted rope as her weapon. The moral of the story is (DON'T GET TO CONFIDENT BECAUSE THE ODDS MIGHT TURN AGAINST YOU!) I would give the book a five out of five rating. It is a good book and I suggest you read it.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Adventurous Book, Feb 17 2003
By
N.Song (Cerritos,CA USA) - See all my reviews
This book is very adventourous, dramatic, and there's alot of action. This book starts out every where. In the end all of them meet at a certian place and they fight the evil Urgan, Nagru and his evil henchmen. In the story King Gael is held captive in his own palace by Nagru. While Gael is held captive two worriors were exploring, Dandin and Mariel, they encounter many allys and other animals. When they were also thrown in the dungeon they had one poupose it was to defeat Nagru.
Why I like this book is because it's full of adventure and action. There's alot of killing and finding new things. Like this quote from the book," Bet I wipe out more vermin than you do, marm, wot?" They think taking lives from rat's is a game and I like that.
What I also like about this book is that you feel like your in the action like your fighting the bad guys and when your men die you get mad or sad. In this book there are many dramatic parts like when Finnbarr died it was very dramatic it's like a good friend dieing, when you're into the book. Here's another quote,"Turn me t'face the west. That's the direction the sea lays in, ain't it?" Or when Fatch died trying protecting Rufe that was sad too.
My favorite part of the book is when all the animals come to fight the evil Nagru and his henchmen. It was a great battle all those rats died and some they surrendered and they were turned into slaves. The part when Finnbarr killed Nagru it was awsome but at the same time sad because Finnbarr died because Nagru's henchmen shoved a spear into Finnbarr's body and he was slowly dieing.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Bellmaker, Nov 28 2002

The Bellmaker is the best book I've ever read. It is just so packed with adventure and old language like Ahoy! Or when the moles talk "hurr oi doint know abot thies zurr". Sometimes you cant put it down. I know I couldn't until my mom forced me to bed. Every Saturday and Sunday morning I would sit up in bed and read instead of smashing my face into the pillow and trying to fall back to sleep.
