3.0 out of 5 stars Mom likes it, daughter not interested
This book is one of my personal favorites, but it has not captured the attention of my almost three-year old. She NEVER picks it out as a bedtime story once we got beyond the initial reading.

4.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful sing-song lyrics and illustrations, Feb 25 2012
This review is from: Time for Bed (Board book)
This review consists of two parts: 1. What my son thinks; and 2. What I, his Mom, thinks.

SON SAYS:

I like it when my Mom reads this book to me even today when I'm 5 years old. It reminds me of when I was younger. I like looking for where the baby and the mommy or daddy animals are in the pictures. I can even pick out the words of the animals in the book. My favorite picture is the one of the kitties. I wish there was a picture of a puppy like Zara - my aunt's dog. It makes me happy when my Mom reads this book to me.

MOM SAYS:

This is one of my all-time favorite books for wee little ones. I used to read this book to my kids even as babes in my arms. The story is so lyrical and and the words roll off your tongue like a soft lullaby.

"It's time for bed, little mouse, little mouse,
Darkness is falling all over the house."

The book is beautifully illustrated with a wide array of baby and adult animals including mice, geese, cats, dogs, deer, snakes, fish and bees. I like the inclusion of animals that little kids may be afraid of upon encountering in the real world. I think it's important for kids to respect and appreciate all life forms so I like that the book includes non-traditional and non-cute and fuzzy animals.

When the children are very little and can't even focus on the book, the poems in the book are beautiful and when they get a bit older, the illustrations really keep their attention.

Overall, I would argue that this is a must-have in every parent's library.

5.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful book, April 6 2008

I have been reading this book to my daughter, and now my son for almost 2 years. I still love it! The pictures are beautiful, the cadence is soothing, and it ends with a kiss. As my daughter grew, we started to talk about the names for the animals and where they lived etc. For about 6 months, she would end the story by kissing the sleeping child at the end.

This is definitely in my family's top 10 list for board books.

5.0 out of 5 stars Our favorite bed time book, July 8 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Time for Bed (Board book)
I began reading this book to my daughter when she was six weeks old. Even at that young age, she responded to the soothing cadence. She is now four months old and this book lulls her right to sleep for naps and bed time. We both love it!

This review is from: Time for Bed (Board book)
I bought this book for my daughter when she was 18mths. We have read it almost every night for the past 6 months. She has the verses memorized. She loves the picture of the baby animals w/ their mothers and likes to point them out "my sheep, mommies sheep". The rhymes are easy to read and the pictures are great!

A very sweet bedtime book, this story is lavishly illustrated with pictures of mommy and baby animals. Rhymes are particularly good for bedtime, and this text is especially lovely. Even calms a grownup!

This is a pleasant bed time book for animal lovers. All the animals are going to sleep, the lamb, the cat, and even the bee. The text rhymes, and the pictures are fun. The book is short (about 250 words).

I have a three year old daughter and this book is both our favorites. Animals are always a kid pleaser. What better way to prepare your child for bed than saying goodnight to all the animals. Pictures and story are top of the line.
This book makes a great gift and addition to any child's library. Get it today!
