5.0 out of 5 stars Very good book for patients with Primary and Secondary Sjogrens Syndrome
This book was delivered as promised via Amazon.com. It tells me everything I need to know about Sjogren's and other Autoimmune Rheumatic diseases and more, and gave me much more appreciation for my Rheumatologists Doctors Philip Sedrish and Marielisa Sedrish at Gulfcoast Rheumatology at Slidell Memorial Hospital. Well, i have a medical professionnal background and i find it very scientific, maybe too much for the general population; they talk about the tests results ( lab datas the numbers that shows that a person is healthy or not) , the ADN with all the scientific details and more complicated details like that , so from my point of view , anyone can get lost easily , not to...

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good book for patients with Primary and Secondary Sjogrens Syndrome, May 30 2010

They have been doing everything like clock work with me and I have been a very trying case for especially for Dr Philip Sedrish. These doctors are definitely experts in Rheumatology and all the other Auto-Immune Neuromuscular and Skin Diseases such as (RA, PM, DM, IBM, Sjogrens, Scleroderma, Lupus, ALS, etc...) that go along with their specialty. They referred me to the best specialists: Dermatology - Dr Eric Tabor; Cardiology - Dr Ignatius Thomas; Pulmonology - Doctor Dennis Dale and Doctor Janine Parker; Opthamology- Dr David Slagle; Gastroenternology - Dr Anthony Albright. These doctors all work well with each other and me to address all my symptoms associated with Dermatomyositis, Sjogrens, and Psoriasis. Thanks to these doctors, I have not had to drive 100 miles a trip to the MDA Clinic at Children'sHospital in New Orleans or even further as may others end up doing.

Thank you to the authors of this book and my friends from The Myositis Association, Polymyositis and Dermatomyositis forum.

I recommend this book to anyone diagnosed with a Auto-Immune Disease and associated Cancer.

That's why i think that you should have certain educations in any medical studies or have already readed a lot on the auto-immune diseases to fully appreciated that book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must-Read for those with Sjogren's Syndrome, April 11 2004

This review is from: The New Sjogren's Syndrome Handbook (Hardcover)
This is one of the best books out there on Sjogren's Syndrome. When I was first diagnosed with the illness I had never even heard of it...and this book helped me tremendously to understand my condition. Because Sjogren's Syndrome is an autoimmune disorder that can affect many different parts of the body, it can be very difficult to live with...however, this book goes into detail about every possible manifestation of the disease and how to cope with them. It's very comprehensive and very scientific at times, but well worth the read.

2.0 out of 5 stars Basic Infomation, Mar 23 2004

This review is from: The New Sjogren's Syndrome Handbook (Hardcover)
I found this book typically medically orientated. It was informative and accurate of the current treatments etc. but to be honest I am grateful I read this book after I had researched many forms of therapy.
Otherwise I would have been utterly depressed and without hope for my future. All the 'treatments' offer is symptom relief. There is no mention of improving immune status or joint repair i.e. healing. The list is endless, with the added bonus of all the drug side effects! And what about non invasive forms of pain relief like a simple heat pad? I thought the writers could have offered a lot more for sufferers. Most people flick through the tech stuff to get to the 'how to get well' section, let's be honest.
As a health care professional of traditional background, I am realising that there is a huge wealth of info from Alternative Medicine that I once dimissed like my colleagues. Holistic care is the way forward in my opinion. Oh yes, that and fish oil!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars It really helped me understand Sjogren's..., July 21 2003

After being given a diagnosis of Sjogren's Syndrome, I really didn't know what it meant. I searched the internet, but really couldn't find any detailed information, so I hit Amazon to find a couple of books. This one was recommended by the Sjogren's Foundation, and was an excellent choice. I was able to see some detailed information, including a break down of the different symptoms. One negative note - it is very medically oriented, so you may need to read through it a few times.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sjogren's Syndrome, July 25 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: The New Sjogren's Syndrome Handbook (Hardcover)
This is a must read for anyone with this syndrome. You will need to buy several coppies to carry and give to your care takers and Dr.s. Most Dr. know OF Sjogren's, but very few know HOW TO care for people with it and the complication that come from not understanding how important that moisture is to a Sjogren's patiant. My Husband had surgery and told the anesthesiologest of his condiction and they did not make any changes. After surgery he was so dried out and throat was sore, he could hardly sleep. We received the book about a week later and found that Sjogren's patients should have different trement to keep them from dring out. We have given all the Dr.s that tend to my Husband this book to read. It is cheeper to educate them, than suffer the discomfort.

5.0 out of 5 stars Review for the New Sjogren's Syndrome Handbook, Mar 18 2000
This review is from: The New Sjogren's Syndrome Handbook (Hardcover)
Very good book. I found it very informational. It is a must have for people that want to understand the disease or learn more about it. I specially liked the chapters about Sjogrens and pregnancy and the one about the antiphospholipid antobody. It has been the most complete and comprehensive handbook in Sjogrens that I have read.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great reference book -Will not sit on your book shelf, Feb 25 2000
This review is from: The New Sjogren's Syndrome Handbook (Hardcover)
The first time you receive this book, try to read the entire book. As your symptoms come and go, pull out this handbook and use it as a reference to see how doctors and patients cope with different symptoms and flair ups. When I travel, I always pack this book. Different climates affect each person differently. What may work in your area, will not always work in different parts of the world. Due to the fact I drink plenty of water, my seven year old nephew gave me the nickname of Princess Sponge
