I was surprised,

This review is from: When God Looked the Other Way: An Odyssey of War, Exile, and Redemption (Paperback)
For some reason I expected arduous reading, maybe it was the appearance of the cover, but the book turned out to be rather engrossing. It was the right mix of historical fact, emotion, remembrance, geography, and character. I finished reading it in 3 days and was rather sorry it was done.

Rarely does one find an engrossing, spell binding, non-fiction book, but I couldn't put it down. Excellent lesson on WWII for all generations to remember. It is an entertaining and informative story about the power of hope - and the will of man to survive.

When God Looked the Other Way - A great work,

This is a wonderfully written book. Told from the eyes of a child, it creates images that burst into the readers mind. This is a story of great depth. A look at war away from the battle scenes. A book that is not easy to put down.

I admire and respect Mr. Adamczyk for this work. His writing style enables the reader to stand beside him at every point of his experience and live it with him. It's also a reminder to never give up, to maintain your faith, and stay positive when the going gets tough. This is a lesson that no one should ignore.

An engrossing personal narrative,

The great strength of this book is the author's ability to tell the story from the viewpoint of a young boy. The subject of the book, WWll, can be overwhelming but Mr. Adamczyk keeps the book fresh and alive because it is being told from the viewpoint of a boy. I know it is a cliche but I could not put the book down. High praise indeed for a non-fiction work.
