Martin Evening is a Photoshop genius. This is the second edition of Photoshop for Photographers that I have purchased. I loved his Photoshop CS2 for Photographers so much, I considered it my Photoshop Bible and referred to it for everything I need to know. This version, CS3 for Photographers, is the updated version and includes all you need to know about the CS3 upgrades. This book has improved my knowledge and skill level with Photoshop immensely. Martin provides very detailed and clear instructions on many basic and advanced Photoshop techniques along with high quality images to accompany the text. My personal favorite is his method of masking hair, which as many digital imaging users will no doubt agree is one of the more difficult tasks to perform and pull off with any degree of professionalism. I can't praise this book enough. I always have it near when I am working in Photoshop. Thank you Martin Evening for a first class read.

5.0 out of 5 stars The book to really learn photoshop, Dec 2 2007

This book is great. If you have a basic understanding of photoshop and you want to get to the next level by first tuning your skill's and building a solid foundation. This is the book for you.
The chapters on basic photoshop step you through the modern CS3 way of things. The book includes the right level of technical info with how to use them. I finally understood the difference between the healing brush and the spot healing brush and why they are different. Then martin steps you right into using masking to complement the spot healing. Since I now understand. I will remember this super powerful technique forever. The sections on hair selection, skin retouches are great and I could go on and on.
The DVD has lots of goodies including excellent videos, images from the book so you can follow and really learn (tough not all the images).
For me this book has paid for itself in one evening of reading / practice and will be a long term tool and reference.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not just for photographers!, Feb 23 2012
This review is from: Adobe Photoshop CS3 for Photographers: A Professional Image Editor's Guide to the Creative use of Photoshop for the Macintosh and PC (Paperback)
This book is absolutely amazing! Not only is it good for beginners, it is also fabulous for experienced users of CS3.
It is written in a style that even a novice can understand. It is full of wonderful colored photos to actually see what is being described. I can't say enough about this book.

I have been using Adobe CS3 since it first came out but although I had seen this book on Amazon, I didn't think it was for me because I am not a photographer. Recently I bought an inkjet printer to make prints of my artwork for selling. However, I didn't realize that I would have such a problem trying to calibrate everything to work together in order to get a true color print.

I searched online for color calibration help and although I found lots on this subject, they were either way too technical or way too expensive. Just by chance I clicked on this book for a look inside and I found that it seemed to have a really comprehensive section for pre-press and printing to inkjet printers. Also the price was right.

Not only was I extremely pleased with the information I was looking for, but also I found a lot of info on CS3 that I didn't know about even though I had been using this software for years as a graphic designer.

I have other books on Adobe CS3 software and this book is right up there with the "Photoshop CS3 Bible" which I felt until now was the only book to buy on CS3.

You will not regret purchasing this book.

I usually have a problem giving a book a perfect score. If there was a 4.9 rating, I'd use it for this book.

However, it's so close to perfect, it really deserves a 5.

As a long-time user of Photoshop, I was suprised by how much I discovered with this book, about Photoshop, and about Photography.

If you are an intermediate level (or above) Photoshop user looking to expand your knowledge, you owe it to yourself to get this book.
