This review is from: Tyndale's Old Testament (Hardcover)
Despite typographical errors in this edition, it is most precious to read and re-read. David Daniell has given us the gift of William Tyndale's original translation of the Old Testament (as much as he was able to complete before being captured and martyred) in modern spelling.

Tyndale's prologues are valuable and edifying. Here is an excerpt from his "Prologue Showing the Use of the Scripture":

"Then go to and read the stories of the bible for thy learning and comfort, and see everything practised before thine eyes: for according to those examples shall it go with thee and all men until the world's end. So that into whatsoever case or state a man may be brought, according to whatsoever example of the bible it be, his end shall be according as he there seeth and readeth."

The only gift greater for the English speaking world than having Tyndale's scriptures in modern spelling will be their production in modernized English by the New Matthew Bible Project (watch for the publication of the "New Matthew Bible" in due course). For much has changed in the English language, and there are "faux friends" in Early Modern English, so in places it can be difficult to understand Tyndale's bible translations despite modern spelling.

This reading is well-supplemented by good biographies of William Tyndale, such as these recent books:God's Bestseller: William Tyndale, Thomas More, and the Writing of the English Bible---A Story of Martyrdom and Betrayal, and William Tyndale: A Biography, and reading his expositions of scripture, such as Penguin Classics Obedience Of A Christian Man.
