Memories in the Making,
By Summer Belle "Word Affectionado" (North Carolina, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Monster at the End of This Book (Sesame Street) (Board book)
Grover is more than a little nervous - after all, there's a MONSTER at the end of the book. So, he enacts all kinds of zaniness like gluing the pages together in order to keep (protect) YOU (not him!!) from the monster at the end of the book. This is the only book I remember my dad reading to me - EVER. (Probably because I asked for it a million times!!) He would act the parts out and change his voice and I would roll on the floor with laughter. When it came to Grover's antics, my dad would pretend that the pages really *were* stuck together. He'd grunt and groan and s-l-o-w-l-y turn the pages. I read it to my kids - my children and students alike - in the same manner. And you know what? Everyone rolls on the floor giggling. Everyone has a good time. I highly recommend this one - it is a great story about the wacky ways we devise to avoid what we think we fear. BUT, it is also a great way to build memories that will last forever with your children.

Classic Sesame Street (before the cloyingly sweet, little red monster which dominates the roster these days), featuring the original favourite monster. Let's face it, you probably read it as a child too. If this review is what you need to convince you to pass this on to the next generation, then take this as a resounding, "Go for it." You won't regret it.

This is a children's book every child should experience. I buy this book for most baby showers I go to along with other gifts. I can depend on Amazon to get it to me quickly.

I loved this book as a child and decided to share it with the young people that I'm related to today. You know how some things you loved as a child can seam dated and stupid today? Not this book. It's timeless! It's a great little story that's funny but also teaches on many levels. I bought five of the books, one wasn't cut 100% but still quite readable so I lived with it. It also doesn't hurt that I can do a pretty decent Grover voice so it's really fun to read out loud. I love this book. Hope this helps you with your purchase.

The Monster at the End of This Book,

I was really looking forward to sharing the book with my granddaughter, as I had with my children many years ago...BUT upon receipt I was VERY disappointed it was not the large book I was expecting...instead it was a very small 6 3/4' x 8'...so for the $4.74 paid, it was not money well spent, I'm sorry to say. So just keep this in mind if you are expecting the large version from years gone by...this is now a 'Little Golden Book' of the smaller kind...Julie B. :(

Grover is Coo Coo!,
This review is from: The Monster at the End of This Book (Sesame Street) (Hardcover)
It's very funny because Grover tries to stop you from turning the pages...for a funny reason that you find out at the end of the book. Also he yells a lot. (Thomas and Sophie ages 7 and 5)

Fast shipping!,
This review is from: The Monster at the End of This Book (Sesame Street) (Board book)
THis item was sent as a gift, so I cannot attest to its quality, however I have heard no complaints from the mother of the child who received the book. I can say however that this seller sent the item quickly and it arrived before the estimated time. :) This makes me extremely happy as it was to be a Christmas gift after the childs previous gift was lost for nearly month and never recieved( not from this seller but from SearsCA) Anyway, Thanks, I appreciate your quick shipping time!

This is the first book I can remember reading on my own. I was three years old, and looking back, I'm not sure if I could actually read it or if I just memorized it after hearing it so many times! That was a long time ago, and I now have the pleasure of passing on this story to kids myself. If you've read it, you know how fun it is. If you haven't, here's the gist of it: 1-There's a monster at the end of the book (just like the title says!). 2-Loveable Grover wants NOTHING to do with that monster. 3-So he pleads, begs, and implores the reader not to turn the page so that they don't get to the end of the book (with its monster!). 4-Which of course, it being a book, the reader does. 5-Grover then tries all kinds of ways of stopping the reader from turning the pages, but again, it being a book, the reader does. 6-It ends with a surprise ending is a ton of fun for kids. Two things makes this book so much fun. First, the book really lends itself to being read with funny voices, loud exclamations, and all kinds of fun effects that kids love (like another reviewer said, pretending the pages are stuck, or to heavy to life, is a great favorite). Second, and I think most importantly, the book lets kids disobey a direct order. They get to act "bad" by turning the page. On one level, turning pages against someone begging you in fear not to isn't too nice. But the fact that this is a book gives kids free license to do so- in fact, they're meant to! So no matter how much you beg or plead, kids just REALLY want to turn to the next page! The funny tone, the great pictures, the suspense, all reinforce that this really is a fun book. When it's read properly, kids get that this is harmless fun rather than anything sinister or scary. What they get is a suspensful and funny story, read in all kinds of funny voices and effects, with a funny character, AND the chance to break rules without worrying about anything (really) bad happening. What more could a kid ask for? So if you haven't read this book, or more importantly, if you haven't read it to a child you like to read to, then this really is a book that you should buy. One of the all-time children's classics in my opinion. An easy five stars. |
