5.0 out of 5 stars Addresses an important issue, Mar 10 2003

This review is from: The Poky Little Puppy (Hardcover)
This was the first children's book to write honestly about the issue of pokyness. The subject is introduced in a gentle manner so as not to unduly embarrass a young listener who is struggling with pokyness. As someone else put it, "the puppy is the child who has failed to progress beyond the mirror-stage, surely." I couldn't agree more, or recommend this more highly for any parents with poky children.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nick's review, Feb 2 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: The Poky Little Puppy (Hardcover)
My name is Nick and I am 12 years old. "The Poky Little Puppy Follow's His Nose Home" is about a group of five puppies who want to go on an adventure. Their mom tells them they can go , but she also tells them to stay away from cars and they must be home by dinner time. Eventually they find cars in the city and they have to leave, but they get lost while they are in the city. So the poky little puppy uses his very good puppy nose and eventually returns from home. I liked this book because it is an adventure that little kids can enjoy. I would recommend this book for kids that are 4 or 5 years old.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this book!, Jun 9 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Poky Little Puppy (Hardcover)
This is the sweetest little book. I read it when I was a little girl, and now I am going to buy it for my soon-to-be-born baby. I have always thought of the poky little puppy as a hero for the ones who stop to smell the roses.

4.0 out of 5 stars The story of a slow puppy and his brothers., May 28 1999
This review is from: The Poky Little Puppy (Hardcover)
This is a children's book about a slow puppy and his brothers. The slow puppy always seems to miss out on things, especially dessert. The book was illustrated by Gustav Tenggren. Interestingly, although the book was first published in 1942, in 1995 it was the number one best selling hardcover book for children!

5.0 out of 5 stars Golden Books create golden memories!, Aug 18 2000

This review is from: The Poky Little Puppy (Board book)
The original "Poky Little Puppy (Little Golden Storybook)" is the best-selling children's hardcover book of all time according to the Time Almanac 2000. This was a classic tale about a curious little puppy who loved to explore the outdoors. This theme is used in "The Poky Little Puppy's Counting Book."

I like the sturdy shape book as it had thick pages and the pages are in the shape of the puppy. On the front cover, you see the adorable puppy. When you turn the book over, you see a butterfly sitting on his tail.

In this story, Poky goes for a walk and sees 10 interesting things. As you can imagine with a counting book, each page reveals an increasing number of items. There are caterpillars, baby birds, kittens, turtles, frogs, honeybees, strawberries, ladybugs and fireflies. On the last two pages, all the animals, bugs and plants reappear in lines so you can encourage counting.

If you are looking for books which are on the list of best-selling children's books, look for "The Tale of Peter Rabbit (2nd)," "Scuffy the Tugboat (5th)," "Green Eggs and Ham (7th)," and "The Cat in the Hat (8th)." These are the classics we all remember well. If you have trouble finding this book, look for the super shape version.
