4.0 out of 5 stars Worth a read
This book states some obvious things, but is well worth the read. There are so many small tips and tricks that can make a real difference. It is divided up into sections like car, vacation and debt, so you can easily read more about your biggest concerns, or read the whole book and get a better handle on your finances.

3.0 out of 5 stars A good beginner's guide, but offers nothing for finance savvy
This book has helpful information for anyone just starting out to saving more money.

However, it is poorly written. Too many comments on their own writing, the kind that comes in a bracket following a sentence as a side note. This book would be better edited down to 100-150 pages. It can get confusing at times. It feels like talking to an out of touch...

This book has helpful information for anyone just starting out to saving more money.

However, it is poorly written. Too many comments on their own writing, the kind that comes in a bracket following a sentence as a side note. This book would be better edited down to 100-150 pages. It can get confusing at times. It feels like talking to an out of touch housewife, she often got sidetracked into unrelated matters. I often need to read a sentence 3-4 times to understand what they are trying to say. e.g. There is an advice for parents with small children. She said cutting up food for children while her husband worked late is daunting. What? What kind of food are they feeding their children that require a 2-person operation? I read the paragraph several times, and I think she meant making meals composed with bite-sized pieces for everyone would be more sensible than having to cut up your children's meal at the table.

The book promised to be a guide to "living better, spending less and cashing in on your dreams". However, they seem to live very poorly. The kids are home-schooled, so they probably never knew better. The food that they eat seem to lack nutrition. I'd rather pay off my house longer than 9 years so I could feed my family with better food. It is wary that all their sons look shorter than their father.

Overall, it's got some good ideas. But nothing I don't already know. Most important thing is to spend less than you earn.

This is a great well organized book to get anyone thinking about getting maximum value for their money. It is not necessary to follow their strategies as much as to get thinking about new solutions to your needs. Some thing did not work for us (eg grocery shopping monthly and eating frozen food most of the time) but some were great ideas like car shopping and trying not to pay full retail price.
