A Sewing Book I Actually Use,
By Tere (Halifax, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bend-the-Rules Sewing: The Essential Guide to a Whole New Way to Sew (Paperback)
I purchased this book about two weeks ago, and have already made several projects from it, including the lap quilt. So far, I really enjoy this book. The instructions are simple but accurate, and I think this enables you to feel less constrained than when there are lists and lists of steps to follow. There is a nice mix of projects, all of which are practical but unique and easy to personalize. I have read reviews of this book where people commented on the simplicity of the projects, and it's true that many are basic. However, although I could probably have figured out how to make a little zipper bag, I don't think I would have thought to do it, or realized how fun they could be to make. This book is inspiring and fun, and although I have many books about quilt making, Amy Karol's way of explaining the process actually encouraged me to give it a shot!

It's a super way to sew!,
By Christina (Montreal, Quebec) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bend-the-Rules Sewing: The Essential Guide to a Whole New Way to Sew (Paperback)
I recently got this book for myself and it's one of the best in sewing and crafting in general. The projects are quick and simple for the most part (think Christmas gifts!) and the designs are adorable. The pictures are great and the instructions are very clear (although step-by-step pictures would have been nice in some projects). Basic sewing is explained in the first part (with a lot of tips and tricks)and there is three categories of projects: gifts (bags, totes, purses, dog collar...), decorating (napkins, coasters,pillows...) and for kids/babies (bibs, blankets, hats...).It's a great book, full of life and color, and I recommend it strongly for those of you who likes sewing and wants to do colorful, original, artsy things! Kudos to Amy Karol! (I've heard through the grapevine that she's working on another book...yeah!)

I just got this book last week, after repeatedly drooling over it in the book store. I love that this book is full of do-able projects with great directions, and also it has loads of beautiful pictures that just inspire me creatively. Thanks to Amy Karol for getting me to dust off my sewing machine and start some serious sewing!
