Found this book to be well written, concise, and practical. Put it into practice about a month ago, and have already lost 15 pounds without really trying. The theories presented in the book make sense to me, and I have seem some very recent studies in the literature that correlate well with what G. Taubes is asserting in this book. It is about time that the medical field stops with the chant of 'calories in, calories out' as it just does NOT work for lots of people. I know several people who have changed their way of eating to follow these guidelines, and it works for them. They eat well, exercise moderately, and maintain a healthy body.

Do you like reading? Do you like to read about nutrition and how we got to the point were we are as a society, as humanity? This is a very well condensed and explained book about why we are fat. Sounds redundant, but it does explain it and very well, plus, it might change a paradigm or two on what we think is good and bad for our health and weight.

The only thing is that the "diet" at the end is a very general guideline of what is probably a ketogenic diet. There is a lot of ressources out there regarding this diet, especially on Reddit you will find A LOT. Have fun!

Taubes is a genius and has a logical yet simple and clear writing style. Nutritional 'science' has gone astray the past 50+ years and people like Taubes and others are starting grass roots movements to return nutrition/diet advice back to healthier times when it was free of industry lobbying and marketing.

If health and wellness are important to you then you owe it to yourself to read this book.

This book should be mandatory reading for all. The author explains the science behind weight gain, and unlike most other books, the history of research in this area and what it has shown. It's not a diet book, it's a book that covers--in simple language--what the research says about diets and dieting. This book is a must-read: It will change your life!
