All the stars I give are for Laughs Only,
By Betsy (us) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Ten Big Ones: A Stephanie Plum Novel (Hardcover)
Janet doesn't disappoint in this volume when it comes to the laughs. I found several Laugh out loud moments in volume 10 in the Stephanie Plum series. Now for the negative. However, I find it very boring that for her to have a relationship with Morelli he is throwing that little morsel of marriage at her at times when he is either scared for her safety, trying to get her in bed or just out of the blue but never really plays out as part of the story. By book 10 I have finally had it. We sat back as the triangle was built between Steph, Ranger and Morelli. When she and Ranger finally do the deed it is brief and only skimmed over in later books. So they flirt, big deal it's lost something because no matter what we are pummelled with the fact that Ranger doesn't "LOVE her that way". I'll keep reading the books because I am now hooked with Janet's wonderful writing style, but the story needs serious work it is time to make a serious decision in this series and go with it whether I like where it goes or not. Because after this volume it only makes me think that Stephanie is willing to put up with anything from Morelli just as if there are no other men in the universe. I know she loves him but after 10 books isn't it enough?

Rush, Rush, Rush....Same Old/Same Old,

This review is from: Ten Big Ones: A Stephanie Plum Novel (Hardcover)
I've been a fan of Stephanie Plum and Janet Evanovich for years and I eagerly await each new book...Ten Big Ones is the first one I've been disappointed in. I bought the book at 10pm the day after it came out and finished it around 3am the same night. The suspense of the book didn't keep me up reading though, I am just naturally a night owl and often stay up reading this late. Ten Big Ones seemed very rushed me...hurry, hurry to the next funny scene, hurry, hurry to the next encounter with Joe or Ranger. It never seemed to all gel together, the plot itself seemed like an afterthought, something to mix in with all the repeated family and Joe issues and the business with Ranger's shower gel! How many pages were devoted to that shower gel? I was thinking "Ok, Ok, I GET IT already!" I love the characters of this series and I'm sure I will be reading #11, but not with the same anticiaption as the others. I don't want to say it's time to wrap up the series, but I will say it's definitely time to give it a facelift. The back and forth between Joe and Ranger is getting old. Pick one or dump them both already.

Ten Big Laughs!,

In the tenth installment of Janet Evanovich's mega best selling Stephanie Plum series, things are hotter than ever. "Ten Big Ones" may be the tenth book in the series, but Stephanie is still as fresh and funny as ever. So grab your doughnuts and your pepper spray and prepare for a roller coaster ride of a book."Ten Big Ones" sees Stephanie in big trouble this time around; and the trouble begins at a deli. Standing outside a deli, Stephanie Plum and her sidekick Lula watch as a robber leaves the premises after robbing it. Only trouble is, Lula has shot out the back tire of his get away bike and the robber has to run on foot - but not before tossing a bottle bomb that bounces off the deli window and hits Stephanie,s new yellow Explorer, blowing it to teeny tiny bits. Not being one to let any bad guy get away lightly, Stephanie tries to apprehend the would-be robber; he gets away, but Stephanie gets a look at his face. Now able to identify the Red Devil Robber, and put the gang leader behind bars, Stephanie Plum is in more trouble than she bargained for. The Red Devil has connections to the Slayers, a Trenton based street gang. It's not long before the gang has a contract out on her head and her car is covered in graffiti. Soon, the entire town is filled with rumors of Stephanie's current brush with death and most are keeping their distance. Wanting to hide so no one she loves gets hurt, she decides to move out of her boyfriend's house. Her boyfriend, Morelli, doesn't like the idea and wants to lock her in the bathroom to keep her safe. He knows Stephanie has a habit of getting herself into trouble. According to Stephanie, though, she doesn't get into trouble. Trouble finds her. Wanting to stay out of trouble, she decides to hid in sexy Rangers secret lair, which might get her in more trouble with Morelli than the Red Devil! "Ten Big Ones" is an absolute scream from start to finish. There was a scene in the novel involving seven horny dogs humping that actually made me spit the pop I was drinking all over the place because I was laughing so hard. This book has received a lot of negative reviews and I can't see why. You know what you're getting when you pick up a book by Janet Evanovich: Nutty characters, a madcap plot, shooting guns, exploding cars, plenty of Lula and a gun toting Grandma. "Ten Big Ones" doesn't disappoint. I disagree with other reviews that claim the series is getting more and more lackluster the higher the numbers go; in fact, I'm of the opinion that the series is getting better. "Ten Big Ones" may be a touch light on plot, but Evanovich makes up for that with plenty of action and plenty of laughs. There is enough Lula-the gun toting ex hooker- and Grandma Mazur in "Ten Big Ones" to please even the most demanding fan, and the story is wilder than ever. "Ten Big Ones" is a supreme piece of comedy and one hell of a book. It's perfect for the beach, for those boring rides on the bus, or to lighten your mood. If you like laughing out loud in public places, this is the book for you. Personally, I think it's the best in the series so far. When you read it, you'll see why.

I have to say I've read 2 others in this series and there is a consistency to these books that other authors could learn a thing about. If you like the Stephanie Plum books, read this one, it's great.

I have already written a review but after reading some other reviews I had to write another one.You want Stephanie to become a better bounty hunter!where's the fun in that!what the heck is funny about her doing her job correctly,It's the fact that she has no experience and is always getting herself into one crazy scenario after another that makes these books so damn funny.Yes she does keep getting her car blown up and her hair always has something wrong with it but that's her character she is supposed to be a mess she's not supposed to have it all together have you people learned nothing in reading these books. What made you think that this would be an intelectual read after reading any of the other books in this series. These books are supposed to make you laugh and when they stop doing that then I will be disappointed.all I can say now though is so far so good.

Not the best in the series, but laugh your pants off anyway,

It's not the best of the Stephanie Plum serial novels from Janet Evanovich, but it still made me burst out laughing like all the others before it. If you have read the series then of course you must continue, it's still too good to stop. And if you've never read Janet Evanovich or the Stephanie Plum novels then start right now (but obviously start with One For the Money). I gave all my friends the first book for Christmas and by New Year's they were addicts and now are buying the others in the series like mad. I've read other Evanovich novels and I still like Stephanie Plum the best out of all her characters. Can't wait for more.

I loved this book! What a wonderful colorful romp through Stephanie Plum land! I was expecting to be entertained, having read some of the author's other work, but what I didn't expect was such a wonderfully crafted and well-written book. A Plum of a novel! Also recommended: BARK OF THE DOGWOOD

I enjoyed this book as I have all the others but I will admit to being disappointed with this one. The story was just okay (I thought it was going in a whole other direction with the Red Devil and was surprised when it turned out to be gangs). I also thought the publishers might have left some pages off the ending because I did look for them! I'll definitely keep reading Janet Evanovich's books but hope her future ones pick up the pace a little bit.PS I had preferred Morelli until this book. Now its Ranger all the way!!!!

I was worried as a lot of authors have problems maintaining a series, especially one this long and I was worried that the major angles of the relationships had already been covered. Boy was I wrong! For pure reading enjoyment this is excellent! Laughter and tears, a pure sense of enjoyment swept me away. I highly recommend this! Just thinking about it, still makes me chuckle...
