IN DUBLIN'S FAIR CITY...,
By
This review is from: In Dublin's Fair City (Mass Market Paperback)
This is the sixth book in a very entertaining cozy mystery series featuring feisty Irish immigrant and private investigator Molly Malone at the turn of the twentieth century. When an opportunity presents itself for Molly to undertake an overseas investigative assignment that takes her back home to Ireland, Molly takes it with some trepidation. After all, she left Ireland under a cloud. When she boards the ocean liner that is bound for Ireland, however, one passenger turns up missing, while another ends up death, and Molly finds herself with some explaining to do. So much for her hopes of keeping a low profile. When she arrives in Ireland, she is reunited with some of her family, only to find that one of her brothers has some connection to the missing party aboard the ship. From there on, her investigative assignment becomes much more dangerous than she ever imagined, as she finds herself inadvertently embroiled in the Irish Republican movement and their struggle for freedom. This is an entertaining series of cozy historical mysteries, redolent of a bygone era, and the author is a masterful story teller. As with all cozy mysteries, it is not so much the mystery that is of import but the characters that revolve around the mystery. While the mystery itself is intriguing and well-plotted, it is just the framework around which the characters evolve. In creating the character of Molly Murphy, the author has created a sure fire winner. |
