Definitely for the cynic,
By
This review is from: Apathy and Other Small Victories (Hardcover)
I loved this book, I come from a family of cynics, and from the quote I've heard "Behind every cynic is a disappointed optimist" I can only gather that the lead character Shane must have had his share of disappointments in his life. He doesn't care about ANYTHING, despite that, he still has to find a way out of the murder he's accused of since being in jail would still be worse... I bought this book before a long flight, and I can whole heartedly say I enjoyed it, and if I see another Neilan book, would definitely be interested in it

Funniest Book I've Ever Read...,

This review is from: Apathy and Other Small Victories (Paperback)
This was without a doubt, the funniest book I have ever read. I laughed out loud and at times, had tears running down my face from excessive laughter. It also keeps you guessing throughout as to who was behind the mysterious murder.Very entertaining read, I have and will continue to recommend it to anyone.

Amazing new look at lethargy,

Apathy was an amazing book. At first I thought it was going to be just a bunch of nonsense without a plot, but at leased good for a few quick laughs; I was both wrong and right at the same time. There's a pretty good story about a guy who just can't seem to get motivated, and you're drawn into his life as a professional apathetic. The main plot revolves around Shane, an unemployed drunk who just can't stop stealing salt-shakers from every bar/restaurant he goes into. Shane has made it a habit to frequent his local dental office, where he meets and becomes good friends with a deaf dental nurse, and enjoys taunting his manic-depressive dentist. Shane's current girlfriend is a sexually abusive lover, his neighbor has a leather clad guinea-pig that squeals in pain all night from it and it's owners love-making, and his land-lord is a druggy that can't seem to collect rent. When Shane's deaf dental friend dies suspiciously, Shane is the number one suspect. It's no surprise that Shane really doesn't care. Now Shane is drawn into a world of mystery and deception, guns and drugs...but he STILL doest give a hoot. This book actually made me laugh out loud and look like a complete fool in public. It was great. Give it a shot. |
