This book is about a very interesting and scary time in history. Carolly Erickson writes this book in an easy-to-read format and finds a way to make the reader aware of the terror of that time. Of course, being a work of historical fiction, there are many liberties taken with the story, but the basis of the events that occur in the story are true to history. I enjoyed reading this book and it inspired me to continue to learn more about Marie Antoinette as well as French history.

I found the book long winded in parts but over all I immensely enjoyed it. Having no prior knowledge of Marie Antoinette I may not be the best historically accurate judge, but as far as most historical novels go the author seemed to own up to add libs (Eric for example) All in all a good read for fans of historical fiction.
