5.0 out of 5 stars WOW
Just one word : WOW. Personaly I don't like to read, but this book was so intense I was unable to stop reading it. If you are a fan of The walking dead comic, this book is definitly for you. It is really good. If you can't think of having sentiments for the Gorverner, just read this book and you will understand everything. I recommend it to everyone who love zombies...

2.0 out of 5 stars I'm a fan of the graphic novels and tv series but not this book
Maybe I had high expectations, as I'm a huge fan of the genre and of Kirkman, but I found this book to be a bit of a disappointment.
The book takes place shortly after a zombie apocalypse, and it talks about how a band of men try to find safety in an unsafe world. To add to the writing challenge, anyone interested in this story is probably familiar with the graphic...

2.0 out of 5 stars I'm a fan of the graphic novels and tv series but not this book, Jan 8 2012
This review is from: The Walking Dead: Rise of The Governor (Hardcover)
Maybe I had high expectations, as I'm a huge fan of the genre and of Kirkman, but I found this book to be a bit of a disappointment.
The book takes place shortly after a zombie apocalypse, and it talks about how a band of men try to find safety in an unsafe world. To add to the writing challenge, anyone interested in this story is probably familiar with the graphic novel series, and already knows that the protagonist of this story turns into the antagonist later on. However, most of the conflicts throughout the book are very clichéd, and the outcomes very predictable. The ending takes a very lazy turn at the end to try and neatly wrap everything up.
It's a must for hardcore fan of the series, but I ultimately I expected more.

First off. I'm a huge fan of the grphic novel series, and a fan of the TV series. Now Kirkman has given us a novel about The Governor and how he became to be! You couldn't ask for anything better.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not a good novel, ok pulp fiction, Mar 27 2012

I'm a big fan of the comic and read it regularly. I think the comic is, for whatever reason, the ideal Walking Dead experience. I also watch the TV show, but I don't find it as compelling. I think the comic works because it's not limited by the budget and limitations of a TV show, and the gritty black and white artwork adds a lot to the overall atmosphere. This is also something the book lacks. The atmosphere generated by the artwork is replaced with cliche and repetitive descriptions of gore and heavy-handed metaphors. Some of my favourite authors include Bret Easton Ellis and Kurt Vonnegut and I read A Clockwork Orange before reading this so maybe my expectations were too high for what is basically pulp fiction with no high aspirations to be great literature. If you're not overly critical of the writing it's an ok way to kill time on the bus. Although not only is the writing not the best, there isn't anything interesting happening in the story. There's no real tension and nothing really unique. It's a bit boring, surprisingly.

4.0 out of 5 stars Awesome, Mar 6 2012
This review is from: The Walking Dead: Rise of The Governor (Hardcover)
If you like this genre, you will read this book in like 2 days. Killer. Literally. Bloody and unforgiving, tough to read in some sections (kinda like the show where I have to cover my eyes), but after reading it I'm super pumped to see how they tie this into the show. True apocalyptic survival. They lose, they win, they create they destroy they forgive they hate they run and they defend, and then..... Dang.. Check it out!!!
