5.0 out of 5 stars A great guide to a difficult topic, Sep 9 2010
This review is from: The Vaccine Book: Making the Right Decision for Your Child (Paperback)
The internet, media and doctors have made the topic of vaccines very confusing and to many very scarry but I believe that this book has helped me understand the issues and make informed choices. I know a lot of people who are refusing all vaccines because Doctors won't give them enough information but now I believe that I can protect my child from disease and possible vaccine side effects.

4.0 out of 5 stars Well-rounded opinions, Jan 20 2010
This review is from: The Vaccine Book: Making the Right Decision for Your Child (Paperback)
It is so nice to find a book on vaccination that balances both sides of the argument. It seems that everything is either absolutely no (from the natural community) to vaccinations or absolutely yes (from the medical community). Being in Canada makes some of the vaccinations a bit different from what he reviews for the U.S. but I think it is comprehensive enough to make decisions from regardless. After getting Guillain Barre Syndrome myself following the H1N1 and seasonal flu vaccinations it was so important for me to do some research and make decisions that I could live with for my children. This book has helped me understand the risks of specific diseases and the risks of the vaccines themselves.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best vaccine book you can get, Jun 25 2010

This is the only vaccine book I have seen that gives an unbiased (mostly) account of all the things you need to make the difficult decision of whether to vaccinate. I've read it several times and check it regularly. It's written by a doctor who believes in a parents right to choose for their child. I'm so glad I found this book because other books were either entirely for or against. This book allows me to decide for myself.

I find this book very informative and helpful. It is probably the most unbiased, scientifically accurate book written on the vaccine controversy and provides a lot of information for the confused parent. It's easy to read, well laid out....excellent book.

I love how this author presented the facts and did not push you either way in the whole vaccine debate. You're given practical information about what the vaccines are for, what the disease/illness looks like, how common it is, what the ingredients are in the vaccine. He also gives an alternate schedule for vaccines, that I follow the best I can here in Canada. A very good read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Demystifying Vaccines for Parents, Jan 24 2011

This review is from: The Vaccine Book: Making the Right Decision for Your Child (Paperback)
This book is very well written - I recommend it to all parents/guardians. Dr. Sears doesn't say "you should do this or that", but rather lays out the facts and lets you decide. I felt much more informed after reading this. It is organized by vaccine, so that you can pick and chose what you want to read about (for instance I was most concerned about the MMR and Flu vaccines).
Some info doesn't translate across the U.S./Canada border, but it certainly doesn't make this book irrelevant to Canadian parents. Dr. Sears briefly addresses the Dr. Wakefield situation (a British doctor who linked MMR with autism and later was shown to have doctored the research). He does not dismiss theories and suspicions because one doctor was shown to be a fraud - and he suggests some precautions we can take to protect out kids.
Well done, Dr. Sears!
