This review is from: THE ROLE OF AMPHIBIOUS WARFARE IN BRITISH DEFENCE POLICY, 1945-56 (Hardcover)
I read Ian Speller's "The Role of Amphibious Warfare in British Defence Policy" when preparing a paper on the history of amphibious warfare. It is one of the best works on amphibious warfare. Speller did excellent work writing and researching this book. Unlike most works on amphibious warfare, the book is based on solid scholarly research. Furthermore, the book discusses amphibious warfare beyond the narrow bounds of British defence policy between 1945 to 1956. Speller places his topic in the context of the larger amphibious world of the Second World War and the Cold War, including developments in the United States. I strongly recommend this book for any serious student of amphibious and naval warfare.
