Meg Meeker's short and clear book will give you targeted advice on how to be a good father. As the father of two girls, I found this book an easy read on first reading. And I return to it regularly, and every time I return I find myself reading large parts of it again as her advice is so practical.A must read guide for fathers of daughters.

I should have read the reviews first, this book is being returned in less than 1 day of it arriving on my doorstep. If you want a book about fathers and daughters, get a book written by a man - and not by a woman with a bible in each hand.

I find that most of the advices in here are helpful. The only part I found difficult to absorb is how the author tries to convert readers to become religious, so that "God" replaces the father at times when the daughter needs "someone" to listen to, to talk to and to pray to. It may be a good idea, but for atheists and agnostics, this seems like a very foreign and difficult concept to take seriously. Any other ideas Meg? Despite this, the book is easy to read and the advices well-thought out.

Disappointing and Outdated,

This review is from: Strong Fathers, Strong Daughters: 10 Secrets Every Father Should Know (Paperback)
I was seriously disappointed in this book. Not only is the information largely outdated and irrelevant to most of today's fathers (Meeker makes reference to TV shows that are no longer on, etc), the book appears to be a front for religious conversion. Initially I thought to skip the chapter on Your Daughter Needs God, but the message is throughout the book. Spirituality isn't an option... just God.Additionally, the book is filled with "facts" that are sourced secondhand from unreliable websites and unscientific sources. After checking a few of the endnotes, major holes were punched in most of Meekers arguments. And how is a woman qualified to write about being a good father? Let's see some books by real dads! |
