I looked all over my city for these books and when I saw the waiting list(300+ holds), I couldn't wait any longer and I ordered it as soon as possible. Was it worth the wait, ye bet it was. I couldn't put down the books when I started reading them. I'm near the end of the second book and it is such a shame that I have to wait next year when Clash of Kings airs on HBO :-(.

Im not really a fantasy reader but George RR Martin makes his stories so interesting like the way John Ghrisham makes me interested into law/suspense books.

This was a great book set, and although each book pushes or exceeds 1000 pages, any avid fantasy reader would welcome this series with open arms. Each successive novel becomes more and more intense (with the exception of the fourth, where the action comes to a near stand still).

Regardless, this set would make a great present, for a friend or even oneself.

Note that the pages have fine print. If you would like larger, more spaced out text, the hard-cover version would be much easier to read.

I read the first book in paperback and found it a very big bulky book to read that way. The next three I downloaded to my kindle and it is much easier to read this way. i do recommend this series of books for those who like the medieval old time adventures with swords and kings and queens.

Good purchase for the price.
Of course you have to like this type of story. The style is perfect as the narration changes with the storyteller.
The pace is quite good, never really letting up because there are so many actors in the story.
Great gift, really.
I warmly recommend it.

I really enjoy reading series, as they allow an in-depth view of their characters and can build a good story. This series was really intriguing because it was historical (but a fantasy) and had all kinds of interpersonal relationships and conspiracies. Along the same lines as Lord of The Rings with a completely different theme. I always find it interesting to explore the world of power and old-fashioned gender discrimmination from the past. Makes me very glad not to have been a woman living during this time. The books were easy to read and compelling enough to keep you up late at night. I would recommend this series to anyone who is interested in historical, fantasy fiction.

I am very pleased with the product! As a Game of Thrones fan I read the books by borrowing them from friends, and they always ended up in a pathetic state. I wanted to purchase a set of my own that would fit in my library shelves. This set is beautiful. Although it's not the original covers on the books (new versions appeared while the tv series came out), I found that it is very difficult to find a set with original covers, and this set does the trick and is very beautiful. The texture of the covers is soft and pleasant.
I would definitely recommend it!

The books are great.

However, the physical product isn't as great. The covers are a thin paper so you have to be careful. As soon as I took out "game of thrones" I had so much trouble putting it back in. The box is so tight, and you jam up against the fold inside. I had to slide in a paper to help guide it over the fold when putting it back in, which was hard due to how tight it was. It's probably easier for a middle book, but it's poorly made for that reason.

Well worth the price thought.

I loved this series.

It is impressive of the author created a whole new world. The time and imagination it required...!!

I really enjoyed the writing style. Each chapter, a different character's story and point of view.

However, in the fourth book, I thought not much was happening. Long paragraphs of description and no action whatsoever. I was looking forward to be done with it. I hope the fifth one will be as good as the 3 first ones.

The series starts strong and seems to go downhill in an slow, strange manner as you approach the fourth book. It seems like Martin was running out of ideas on how to wind down him series. I was extremely disappointed in the fifth book (which is not included in this set since it wasn't in print yet). Seems to me there will be at least one more book in the series. If the current trend continues it will not be worth reading!

Fast paced, with great character development, and lots of characters to cheer for (or hate). A rich and detailed world (but not too detailed), and to get the first 4 in the series for such a good price is a steal! If you're a fan of the HBO show (which is how I found out about the series), this is a great way to wait for the next season and to learn the nuances which are left out of the show.
