2.0 out of 5 stars Cocked his head...34 times
If I could sum up this reading experience in one sentence it would be: "It's like reading Berenstain Bears with a sadomasochistic twist."
The thing that will turn most readers off isn't her limited vocabulary, it's the repetition of words/phrases that she's confined herself to.

"Holy crap." This is mentioned about 23 in the first three chapters...

1.0 out of 5 stars Why is there not a zero star option?, May 31 2012
This review is from: Fifty Shades of Grey: Book One of the Fifty Shades Trilogy (Paperback)
This book was awful and I'm angry that I wasted my time reading it. I stopped after 250 pages (which I NEVER do) because it was just sex scene after sex scene with nothing happening in between. The writing was terrible and the characters unlikeable. Hands down worst book I've ever opened.

1.0 out of 5 stars boring and repetitive, Jun 8 2012
This review is from: Fifty Shades of Grey: Book One of the Fifty Shades Trilogy (Paperback)
"boring and repetitive". this series is being marketed as erotic and thrilling, but it's boring and repetitive -- and extremely poorly written... how did these books ever become a hit?

2.0 out of 5 stars Poorly Written..., May 6 2012
This review is from: Fifty Shades of Grey: Book One of the Fifty Shades Trilogy (Paperback)
Picked this book up to see what the hype was about. Was looking for something modern, sexy and intriguing. Can barely get through it. It is very poorly written. Feel like I am reading a Harlequin Romance which is definitely not my genre. Havent even been able to get to any of the sex yet because it is a chore to read....feel like I am reading a book written for a teenager but for the sexual content....so who is this book written for? Probably won't finish it. I think the hype is a product of really great marketing so bravo to the publishers!

1.0 out of 5 stars Not going to be a classic., May 21 2012
This review is from: Fifty Shades of Grey: Book One of the Fifty Shades Trilogy (Paperback)
I bought the book because of the buzz on radio and tv chat shows, even Saturday Night Live mentioned it in one of their skits. It is as titillating and scandalous, as hyped. I was hoping that it would have been better written. A lot of phrases are repetitive. Count how many times the word "apex" is used.
I thought the language would be more creative.

Commercial, vapid, shallow. Bad characters and senseless story. There is nothing else to say about it, go read it and find out.

1.0 out of 5 stars Crap!, Jun 7 2012
This review is from: Fifty Shades of Grey: Book One of the Fifty Shades Trilogy (Paperback)
I wanted to see what all the hype was about so I purchased this book. The characters are shallow, the writing horrible, and the plot...what plot. Avoid this book. Save your money and time! I want to give it zero stars!

1.0 out of 5 stars 50 Shades of Nothing?, July 6 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Fifty Shades of Grey: Book One of the Fifty Shades Trilogy (Paperback)
The hype around this book had me intrigued enough to buy it. And since it is to be adapted into a movie I felt quite curious about it. Unfortunately, the hype is the only thing attractive about this piece. Characters have absolutely no personality. There is no description whatsoever about the psychology of A and C, wich makes the characters boring and irrelevant . And I'm am quite amazed by the lack of vocabulary of the author... I will definitely read the other books before making up my mind for good about this trilogy... But then again, I ask myself if I'm not in for a big disappointment....

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't Waste Your Money, Jun 10 2012
First of all, the writing is the worst I've ever seen. It's immature, amateur and just plain awful. The characters are unbelievable in that Christian Grey is a cartoon and Ana is the stupidest woman on earth. It's not "erotic" -- it's worse than really, really bad porn. One of the signs of a good writer is that he/she creates characters the reader cares about. These characters??? You just want them to jump off a very high bridge and the sooner the better. Not sure where all the hype about this book came from but not from people who know the most elementary things about writing. Do yourself a favour and spend your money on a nice bottle of wine ... or chocolate.

Real erotica does not contain the term "holy cow." The male wears grown up shoes, not Converse sneakers. What absolutely terrible, terrible writing.

One of my book club ladies selected this book, and at our next meeting I fully expect her to be showered with copies of this book, all aimed at her head.

1.0 out of 5 stars Fifty Shades of Grey, Jun 1 2012

Please, Please, Please, skip this book! I wanted to read the books to see what all the hype was about so I bought all 3. What a mistake, they are poorly written and the characters are annoying. In my opinion the writer has totally ripped off 9 1/2 weeks but, made it worse. This is not erotic or romantic. It is pretty much Twilight for an older group of women. She made the female lead someone I would not want my daughters to look up to. What happened to writting about strong, independant and smart females. Whish I never read it!
