Not for die hard fans!,
By Amy (SD) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dangerous: A Dr. Sylvia Strange Novel (Paperback)
I gave this book two stars - one for Risky Business and one for The Welcoming - they are typical stories written by my favorite author. Predictable, yes, but enjoyable. Storm Warning made me mad. I wish I had not spent the time trying to figure it out, It made no sense! Do not buy this book. Go check it out at the library and read the first and last story, but skip Storm Warning!

I can't beleive I actually found something written by Nora that I did not like. The first story in this collection is excellent and is worth purchasing the book for. However, the second story is horrible and the male character is just a major creep. I almost didn't finish it. The third story is OK, and worth your time to read, just not her best. I LOVE Nora, but that second story just didn't cut it. If this is your first Nora book - PLEASE go get something else by her - anything - don't let this one turn you off to her. I feel guilty writing this!!! Sorry Nora!

I enjoyed the first story "Risky Business" in this collection. It was a good story and I really got into the characters. What a character Liz was!! She is such a strong character that risked everything to care for her child. It's so amazing to read. "The Welcoming" was also a good story. It's about Charity who owns and runs an inn on an island off Washington State. Roman is a agent set to check her out. It's about love, honor, family all rolled into one. I really liked this one a lot, especially the ending! WOW! I just wish it was a little longer in length because I didn't want it to end.

NOT HER BEST WORK BUT IT WAS GOOD,

This book was a good read, but I was very dissapointed with the last two story's. Risky Buisness was a very action packed read, and had just enough romance in it to keep you intertained with the story. I did not like Storm Warning or The Welcoming that well however. They were both good read's, but they did not have enough action in them. I would not recomend this book to first time readers of Nora Roberts.

nora roberts is without a doubt one of my favorite authors. she breathes so much life into some of her characters it seems impossible that they're not real. her plots are inventive, her prose beautiful and her characterization fantastic.that said, this collection does not come close to the brilliance she achieves in some of her books. the best is the welcoming and it's actually quite wonderful, with suspense, great characters and a wonderfully beautiful romance. risky business is decent, not great but still better than many romances you read. but storm warning ruined it for me. it was horrible! virtually all the romance takes place in the past; the male character is brutal and unkind until the very end when he suddenly turns around in a completely unrealistic plot device; even the mystery was dull. also, i hate it when a story is seen only from one characters point of view. autumn is the only one whose thoughts we hear and it makes the story extremely 2 dimensional. all and all, storm warning was the worst nora roberts i've ever read, though the welcoming makes up for it somewhat. the welcoming: *****

I wasn't sure that I'd like "Risky Business" but I was pleasantly surprised. The adventure was interesting without being too involved, and the romance and relationship built very nicely. The same cannot be said of "Storm Warning". There was no romance in the story and the male protagonist was hateful. The story, beyond the love story (if you can call it that), was interesting. It reminded me a little bit of some of Agatha Christie's stories. "The Welcoming" is a very nice story about a man ready to learn to love and a loving, giving woman. Likable characters. This book isn't Roberts' best but the first and last stories are nice reads. If you can get passed the nasty male protagonist and the lack of romance in the second story, you might find the mystery interesting.

Pretty rough for Nora,

I am a huge Nora fan, but found this book to be a little bit rough. I would have loved the stories 8 years ago, but have been spoiled by the much more enlightened men that we have been getting in our romantic suspense. The males in these 3 stories are the type that are dark, brooding, and you have to prove your worthiness before they will trust you, and even then they will screw up and be majorly unforgiveable jerks, which us poor women should just get over. The women characters at least are not trajic virgins, they are self supporting stand on their own. I thought that this was great to read to see how much better Nora is now, but independently I think they are mediocre. I think my expectations for her are huge, I read everything she writes as soon as it is put out and have all of her books autographed. If you are new to Nora and like short romances I would start with perhaps the Mckade series, or Stanislaskis. If you like strong kick butt women with gorgeous take charge men, go for her In Death series, or my personal favorite - Private Scandals. Great works.!!

"Dangerous," by Nora Roberts, is another best-seller to be sure. And, rightfully so! I was hooked from the first page. Great characters to connect with, and, a good time, lie in wait for the readers of this fabulous story!
