Small Triumph,
By Giulia Peris (Montreal, Quebec, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Lara: Book One Of The World Of Hetar (Paperback)
Although a departure from what Bertrice has penned in the past, I enjoyed this book for exactly that reason, although I did soemewhat miss the vibrant court settings and period flavour of centuries past and which Bertrice is so good at describing in her historicals. Having said that however, what I actually enjoyed most was Bertrice's venture to "marry" the fantasy element in this novel with the pagan/old world elements found in her historical novels. Somehow, at first, "fantasy" translated itself to "futuristic" to me, so I was pleasantly surprised when it wasn't the case. I loved Lara's story, and although I could have wished a little more development of some of the characters (especially Andraste, Dasarus (sp?), and Verica) one has to appreciate that at this point, this first book is laying the foundation for the others to follow -- where I have not a doubt we will learn more about these interesting characters. And on a final note, Ethne simply enchanted me! This book is not everyone's cup of tea, but if you are a true Bertrice fan, you will enjoy it and be delighted with it.
