5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful things come to those who wait!
I started out as a fan of Ms. Webbs by reading Keeping Baby Safe. I absolutely loved the book and it got me hooked on the Colby Agency novels. I've waited for this one since I heard it was coming out several months ago and I wasn't disappointed. The romance between Lucas and Victoria was wonderful, the circumstances that defined both their lives made you want to shed a...

2.0 out of 5 stars One good romance, the other iffy
The romance between Victoria and Lucas was quite good, and it saves the book from a much lower rating. I guess I should've been forewarned about the Tasha/Seth romance -- from reading the blurb on the back of the book as well as having read some of the author's other books. Like lots of other romance readers, I started out reading the old 70's novels where the hero is a...

4.0 out of 5 stars I like the different kind of romance, Mar 22 2004

This review is from: Striking Distance (Mass Market Paperback)
I thought the mystery was good. I liked the Seth being young and vital. Tasha was exciting to go a job. I liked the strong young woman being able to kick (hide). It is different from many of the romances out today and I found it worth reading and enjoying in one sitting. I am online today to order the authors other books.

I started out as a fan of Ms. Webbs by reading Keeping Baby Safe. I absolutely loved the book and it got me hooked on the Colby Agency novels. I've waited for this one since I heard it was coming out several months ago and I wasn't disappointed. The romance between Lucas and Victoria was wonderful, the circumstances that defined both their lives made you want to shed a tear for them. But in the end it all pays off, big time. It was definately worth the wait!
I was also intrigued by the budding romance between Seth and Tasha, I hope Ms. Webb incorporates more of their story into future books. Seth is the kind of tortured character you love to hate. He's evil but in a good way and you want him to be able to get past his demons and live life to it's fullest with the woman he's realizing he loves.
Then there's that final twist that makes you think about what you know and what you think you know. All in all Striking Distance is a five star book and it's made me a fan of Debra Webbs for life.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book is AWESOME!!!!, Feb 16 2004

I've been a long time fan of Debra Webb's Colby series and couldn't wait to get my greedy little hands on this one. The book was definitely worth the wait. Webb seamlessly marries suspense and romance, and the combination in this book made for an action-packed, gut-wrenchingly emotional read. This hero is TO DIE FOR. He's dark, he's tortured, he's dangerous, and God, is he sexy. Like all of Webb's books, this one is a keeper.

The romance between Victoria and Lucas was quite good, and it saves the book from a much lower rating. I guess I should've been forewarned about the Tasha/Seth romance -- from reading the blurb on the back of the book as well as having read some of the author's other books. Like lots of other romance readers, I started out reading the old 70's novels where the hero is a real jerk or even an outright rapist, but after a few of those, I moved on to what I would consider healthier, more romantic, and more interesting storylines. While the hero in this story has reasons to be as screwed up as he is, I really don't find the sex scenes with him romantic or sexy. That's not to say he's not interesting -- he is, in some ways. I think the author needed a couple hundred more pages to deal with the subject matter in a more effective way. I borrowed this book from a co-worker, and I'm glad now that I didn't spend money on it, because more money given to Harlequin for this type of storyline means they'll make more of them.
