Wonderful Love Story,
By
This review is from: Then Came You (Mass Market Paperback)
I have read everything I can get my hands on from Lisa Kleypas and I have not read a bad book. Lilly and Alex's story is no exception. This is another story of trust and compromise. There is not a relationship in the world that can survive without both. Alex learns to except Lilly for the person she is and her friendship with another man. Lilly learns that Alex can help and comfort her without dominating her.

"Then came you" by Lisa Kleypas is a lighthearted love story. The storyline is made of a wonderful mixture of suspense mystery and romance. Although this book features the famous "dislike at first sight" theme but Ms.Kleypas made it different. The hero and the heroine don't seem to like each other when they first met because of Lily's extraordinary characteristics. As the story goes, they falls in love with each other. I like the way that Lord Alex accepts Lily just the way she is. He loves her despite the fact that she has a cloud of dark secret (about her stolen baby) surrounding her. The characters are so likeable that I can't wait to read the sequel -- "Dreaming of you" which has Derek Craven as the hero. Bravo Ms.Kleypas

Great, but feels a little rushed?,

This review is from: Then Came You (Mass Market Paperback)
As my second introduction to Ms. Kleypas' writing, "Then Came You" is a good stepping stone. The characters are nicely developed yet they are flawed. They're endearing characters even though I couldn't really relate to them as much as I would have liked. I enjoy Ms. Kleypas' sense of humor as well as her touch of dramatics. However, I can't help but feel that the character's relationship feels.. "rushed". It's not quite as sudden as "love at first sight, let's get married tonight", but it seems like the a whirlwind romance. The main characters are headstrong and stubborn.. and they go through long means to make sure the other understands that. Yet... the reasons for bringing them together intimately and sexually seems... weak. I sympathized with Derek Craven and wished that he really got the better end of the stick. (and he did in "Dreaming of You"!!!! *cheer!*) Although I felt that the initial attraction could have been a little deeper, this was really a great read! It fills you with warm fuzzies and entertains!

A Sweet Read,
This review is from: Then Came You (Mass Market Paperback)
This book was wonderful and is certainly worth reading. Lily Lawson is used to causing scandal as a professional gambler and a woman who swears and fits in with the rest of the men. For this reason she hasn't talked to her family in years. However, when she learns that her sweet pliable sister is engaged to a cold-hearted brute, she decides to examine the situation for herself and try and create a chance for her sister to marry the man she really loves. She meets her sister's fiancé, Alex, and decides that he won't do for her sister. Not only does he show no emotion but is still in love with a woman who died years before. He is also not Lily's biggest fan. However, they are thrown together through Lily's plans and one fateful card game. As their love for each other begins to grow, a secret from Lily's past comes back to haunt them. Can they overcome this new challenge? I loved both characters. Lily is the type of heroine I never get to read about. She was scandalous, spunky, and courageous. The reader can see the transformation in Alex occur before their eyes from a man wit ice around his heart to a warm, loving, caring man. It was pleasing to see them fall in love and work through their problems. Secondary character Derek Craven, the cockney owner of a gaming place, is also a fascinating character that gets a love story of his own in another book that I hope to read very soon. The plot was also interesting with Lily's antics around Alex and the issue of her past. It was good so see her and Alex overcome the problems that faced them together and come out on top. The reader truly feels the frustration and emotion with Lily as she attempts to straighten out her life. All in all, this book was fabulous and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good romance.

Then Came You was Great!,

This is one of the better historical novels I have ever read. The wonderful character development, and mystery surrounding each one of these characters, draws you in immediately. I did not want this to end. I was glad when Lisa Kleypas came out with a sequel using Derek Craven as the lead character in it. He was a story unto himself. If you want a good romance and mystery thrown in to boot, I highly recommend this book.

Another Winner,

This review is from: Then Came You (Mass Market Paperback)
I read Dreaming of You first without knowing it was the sequel to Then Came You. Nevertheless, this was an excellent read. Lily a spitfire schemes to break up the engagement of her sister Penny to Lord Alex Raiford, Earl of Wolverton. While he is not in love with Penny, he feels she is a good match for him as he lost the woman he was first engaged to in a hunting accident. Penny too meek, would not be as adventerous. His first impression of Lily is that she is a woman with many lovers as she acts quite the coquette. She visits his home where her sister and family are with the intention of getting her sister back with Zachary, the man her sister truly loves. Alex and Lily dislike each other but cannot fight the attraction. Both knowing and losing a loved one they have something in common. This is a great story about a man trying to get over his fiance and a woman not willing to trust this man with her secrets. A difficult book to put down. Lisa Kleypas does not disappoint her readers with this one. Men like Alex are the type you will never forget. His love for Lily was something to sigh over.

And then came more,
This review is from: Then Came You (Mass Market Paperback)
The great Ms. Kleypas pens a story that touches every woman's heart.Alex is the perfect match for Lily and in between sensous encounters and fighting like cats and dogs, they fall in love. Lily is a headstrong and independent woman who although doesn't care about anything, is hiding a big secret that could end her life with Alex. The back cover blurb reads: "Reckless and wild, beautiful Lily Lawson delights in shocking proper London society--and will break any rule to flaunt her independence. And now she is determined to rescue her helpless sister from an upcoming, undesired marriage to Lord Alex Raiford, the arrogant Earl of Wolverton. Through fair means of foul, the headstrong hellion succeeds outrageously--but her handsome adversary is not to be outdone. A master gamesman, Lord Alex counters Lily's scorn with kindness, and parries her blistering barbs with gentle words and a soft, sensuous touch. For he has resolved to make the spirited miss pay dearly for her interference--with her body, her soul...and her stubborn, unyielding heart." Don't miss DREAMING OF YOU, the story of Derek Craven. S.

Wow! What a great book!,

This review is from: Then Came You (Mass Market Paperback)
I've read other books by Lisa Kleypas and have been disappointed, but this is one book that I read years ago and stupidly gave away. Now I have a new copy and I love it! It's something that can be read over and over again. Although I find Lily's attitude and her highly independent nature somewhat implausible especially for the time period that the book is being written, it's still a great book! I think it wouldn't be romance is all the characters actually behaved and thought true to the time period. It would be more like a Jane Austen novel, although I love Jane Austen her novels just don't make me feel all soft and warm. And Alex Raiford! What a sexy creature! Although some may claim that his character can't change from being hard and cold to the rash and love driven man in the end of the novel, I disagree. Lisa Kleypas never meant to portray him as cold, merely in pain. It is this mutual feeling of pain that brings Lily and Alex together to form the love that they learn to share. This book had all the components that I think makes great romance novels: it included friends and family; danger; excitement and two strong-willed characters! I definitely recommend this to readers!
