A very unique book and reading experience! Highly recommended for a reader seeking something out of the ordinary. The author creates excellent character development through the first person perspective, that demonstrates universal experiences of human emotion.

This review is from: A Concise Chinese-English Dictionary for Lovers (Paperback)
This book is about a young Chinese woman who has come to England to learn English. The book is written by her, complete with the quickly improving bad grammar of a Chinese woman learning English. In this regard, the writing is quite clever and it's a fairly easy book to read once you get into it. The story of the book however is quite odd - it's a romance between her and a strange and frankly quite creepy English man, and it is filled with sex, and I don't know what to make of that. It's not that I am opposed to sex in literature, but it was odd reading this woman's insights into Western society in broken English, and then a two page long broken English description of her getting laid.I do have to recommend it however, if only for the writing style, which is probably like nothing you have ever read. |
