Maybe that's oversimplifying a bit, but the basics are the same. In this story, we have the Grinch, who hates Christmas and every year must put up with the celebration of the Whos who live in the valley below his cave. But this year things will be different. This year, he intends to do something about it. Surely the Whos will be disappointed when they wake up...

The book arrived in reasonable time, considering the Canada Post dispute that was going on. However, there was no Audio CD, and the front pages were torn more than I would have expected.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must for Christmas, Dec 13 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: How the Grinch Stole Christmas! (Hardcover)
The perfect book to read during the holiday season! This book has been made into a cartoon, a song and even a movie with real people as characters. It is my all time favorite Christmas book I ever read. I still enjoy reading it at the age of fifteen. It's a wonderful book about a Christmas hating Who, who tries to steel Christmas from all the other Whos by stealing all their presents, decorations, and food until their wasn't even a crumb left for the mice. His name is the Grinch and what he finds out in the end is Christmas isn't about gifts or the big feast with the roast beast. It's about being together with family and friends.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Love It!!!, Dec 12 2002

This review is from: How the Grinch Stole Christmas! (Hardcover)
I have loved this book since I have been able to read. But I dont like the way the Grinch just goes down and takes everything of the Whos of Whoville. I think the reason that the Grinch did all this stuff was because he was jealous. Jealous of everything that the Whos had and how they celbrated Christmas. And I do like the ending to the story, though and I hope that it changed the Grinch's view on Christmas.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE Christmas book for kids, Nov 17 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: How the Grinch Stole Christmas! (Hardcover)
What can I say about this book that hasn't already been said? Dr. Seuss is a poetic genius. His rhymes flow so smoothly, there is not one "forced" rhyme in the whole book. By saying "forced rhyme," I mean a pair of lines that technically rhyme together, but just don't seem to fit well, a pathetic attempt at making a rhyming pair of lines.
But "How the Grinch Stole Christmas!" is a perfectly rhyming book. Also, the message is positive, that there is good in everyone, even the Grinch.
There are only four colors used in the illustrations: black, white, red and pink. This is great, because it lets the reader imagine how the Grinch would look. (However, after the 1966 cartoon and the 2000 Jim Carrey movie, I'm prettty sure everyone thinks of the Grinch as being green). But, it just wouldn't seem right with everything colored in.
This is quite possibly Dr. Seuss's greatest book, and undoubtedly the best Christmas book for kids ever to be published.

There's so much to say about this book that I don't even know where to start. Well, I'll say that this is a great book for people of all ages.
... I really do think that this is a great book. Dr. Suess is a very creative writer. I love all of the different names he comes up with. Who, Mt. Krumpit, grinch, ect. It also teaches your children a lesson. Being mean and rude doesn't get you anywhere but alone. If you read this book, then you have to check out the movie. It's really good and very funny. You should really read this book. It's great for the holiday spirit!

4.0 out of 5 stars A nice story indeed, Nov 3 2002

"How the Grinch Stole Christmas" By Dr. Seuss

Looking quite out of place and very disturbing in his makeshift Santa get-up, the Grinch slithers down chimneys with empty bags and stealing the Whos' presents, their food, even the logs from their humble Who-fires. He takes the ramshackle sleigh to Mt. Crumpit to dump it and waits to hear the sobs of the Whos when they wake up and discover the trappings of Christmas have disappeared. Imagine the Whos' dismay when they discover the evil-doings of Grinch in his anti-Santa guise. But what is that sound? It's not sobbing, but singing!
The story opens with a classic statement of contrast.
Every Who down in Who-ville liked Christmas a lot... but the Grinch, who lived just north of Who-ville, did NOT!
We don't know why he didn't like Christmas, just the things he didn't like about it, such as noise, feasting, and singing.

This story really shows what Christmas is all about. It starts out with Whos' buying presents and having a cheery time, then when the Grinch steals all their presents he expects them to not have a good Christmas. To his dismay they actually have a wonderful Christmas singing around their giant Christmas tree.

5.0 out of 5 stars How the grinch stole christmas, Oct 31 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: How the Grinch Stole Christmas! (Hardcover)
From the beginning of my time, Dr. Seuss has been one of my favorite authors, be it because of his rhythmic rhymes or his tasteful tongue-twisters I do not know, but he has always found a place into my home. One of Dr. Seuss' more famous books, How the grinch stole Christmas, is yet another great illustration of his great work. "All of the who's down in whoville liked Christmas a lot, but the grinch, who lived just north of whoville, did not!" The grinch thought he could take this time of joy and happiness away from the who's, take away their who-pudding, and even their roast beast. He traveled down to whoville on Christmas, just before dawn. He took all of their presents, everything was gone. Once he had accomplished this great but horrible task, he stood on his mountain waiting for them to moan. All he could see, even with their presents not there, was a city full of who's singing their Christmas cheer. He wondered and wandered and thunk and thought, but he could not figure out how they could be happy even without their presents. Then it finally came to him. Christmas isn't about the giving, it's about the love and happiness behind the presents. So the lesson this teaches is that it's not the gift, it's the thought that counts. The book was excellent and is recommended for every reader weather big or small, because it can teach a lesson to us all.
