To save the future, Baran and his genetically altered for sentience wolf companion, Frieka, go back in time to stop a modern Jack the Ripper from killing an ordinary woman who can change history. Although they are supposed to keep their identities secret, their charge, Jane, is a reporter, and not easily fooled. Rather than passively allowing her bodyguards to protect...

This review is from: Jane's Warlord (Mass Market Paperback)
Baran Arvid is a Warlord from three hundred years in the future. He is military born and bred from a planet called Vardon. Warlords are genetically engineered. His kind have a neuroweb combat computer woven through their brains, giving access to both a vast data bank and info from the sensor implants that are scattered throughout the body. Anything Baran aims at, he hits.

Freika is a huge timber wolf, also genetically engineered, and Baran's partner. His implants and crystals allow him to speak. Baran and Freika wanted nothing more than to continue their mission of assassinating General Jutka, which would save thousands of lives. However, the Temporal Enforcement "TE" section pulled them away. Before they could go after Jutka, they must try to save Jane Colby from being butchered by Kalig Druas (a Xer cyborg mercenary).

Jane Colby lives on Earth in the twenty-first century. She runs a small newspaper that prints three times weekly. Of course she does NOT believe the sexy Terminator duplicate and his cyber timber wolf when they inform her that THE Jack the Ripper from history was actually an Xeran killer named Kalig Druas. Nor does she believe he is coming after her and that the menacing pair were her protectors. But it sure does not take long for Jane to become totally convinced! Soon Jane would face one of the worst killers in the galaxy with only her Warlord and wolf to protect her. Now if only Jane could keep Freika from looking at her seal-point Siamese as if she was an hors d'oeuvre.

***** Angela Knight is destined to become a best selling author many times over! I don't know which part of the book I love the most; the non-stop action or the hot love scenes. This author blends time travel, futuristic warfare, and romance together so well that I could almost believe it could all happen some day. Outstanding! *****

Knight is one hot writer. This is not a book you pass on to your mum!! But Knight is more than that. She created strong characters, a really believable (as much as you can with time travel) explanation for time travel plot about Jack the Ripper. He is on aloose again and targeting Jane, a newspaper reporter publisher for a small southern town. Three hundred years in the future, it is decided to send her her personal body guard - an oh does he guard her body! - a human version of Arnie. It is to prevent her murder and catch Jack. Added by his trusted side kick a computer enhansed Timberwolf, who steals the whole show. She has a wicked sense of humor, knows how to pace the book and is able to give you well drawn human characters.

A great new voice to paranormal/futuristic romance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Red Hot Time-Travel, Jun 16 2004

This review is from: Jane's Warlord (Mass Market Paperback)
I just finished Jane's Warlord and it is a tour de force for the first time mainstream publisher. I have read her novellas and wondered why she was not writing full length.

Warning up front. Berkley has this listed as ROMANCE on the spine of my book. I think they do the reader a disservice. The reader not used to the steamy Secrets or Ellora's Cave style might find themselves started by the strength of this book. If you want hearts and flowers, not red hot sizzling erotic romance, but then move on, this book won't be for you. For the more daring reader willing to give Knight the room to do her thing, she is a talented writer. Yes, it's blazing hot sexual situations - keep a picture of ice water handy! But Knight is so much more. She weaves a crafted tale of a Time Travelling Jack the Ripper and the man hunting him.

Baran is so Alpha Male some with flinch, but you HAVE to accept where he comes from. It is nearly part machine in ways. Bred as a human terminator, he has known no love, no compassion. So that has to be his starting point. Knight shows his always painful coming to feel things for the world and the people around him as Jane works his magic on his heart and life.

The Wulf is a howl....I heart Hannibal Lector's voice coming from him!!

So walk on the wild side and rock with one steamy writer!

5.0 out of 5 stars Jane's Warlord, Jun 14 2004
This review is from: Jane's Warlord (Mass Market Paperback)
This was a very exciting, very sexy tale of a warlord from the future who comes to save a brassy, strong-willed woman from the present. Things heat up between them and they take you on a ride through their wild, sensual adventures.
Angela's charcters are exciting, passionate and even funny. They make you fall in love with them. This is the first book I have read by her but it will not be the last. I will read all of her books both paperback and e-books because she has struck a cord with me. She is right up there with Laurel K. Hamilton as far as creating engaging characters that make you want to read on and on.
I would recommend Angela Knight to any reader who is tired of the same old romance and wants something spicier and more alive! Thank you Angela Knight for giving us your exciting worlds and your creativity!

4.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely....Loved it!!!, Jun 13 2004

This review is from: Jane's Warlord (Mass Market Paperback)
I'm not a into-the-future kinda person, never read any books on the subject either. But this book kept me up all night, I couldn't put it down. Jane and Baran were definitely getting their freak on in more ways then one. I think the eroticism between the two characters, along with the suspense, made the book a very enjoyable read. I just wish the story was longer, but either way, this book is a keeper.

Freika, the wolf, had me laughing my head off. I can't wait for Ms. Knight's next book to be released.

Judy "book reader" (Cincinnati, ohio United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Jane's Warlord (Mass Market Paperback)
Jane's Warlord is an exceptional book. I am so glad friends kept after me to get this book.

Jane Colby is a local newspaper reporter, she covers the crime beat. She is investigating the most recent murder and is shocked to hear how violent the crime is. Even more shocking is the man and his wolf waiting for her at home.

Baran Arvid is a warlord from the future. He has been sent back in time to stop a sadistic serial killer whose next victim is Jane. Baran and his sidekick will lay down their life's to protect Jane.

Jane at first doesn't trust this man and his motives. But she comes to realize she must put her faith and her life in his hands in order to survive. Jane is a strong willed, (...) heroine. Jane is an equal to Baran on so many levels. She gives as good as she gets in and out of the bedroom. Baran though a fierce warlord has never felt this intense desire before and is willing to risk all to have Jane.

Angela Knight writes a richly sensual, suspenseful, futuristic tale. The characters are so multi-dimensional, they make you laugh and you can feel their passions. This book was everything I was told it was and so much more. It's a scorcher.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is one you HAVE GOT to read, Jun 24 2004

This review is from: Jane's Warlord (Mass Market Paperback)
JANE'S WARLORD is Angela Knight's first full-length work by Berkley and if this is anything to compare future titles to, we are all in for a treat! Let me start off by saying this is one hot novel, so if you get easily offended this may not be the book for you. Ok now that we have that out of the way I can tell you I loved this book.

I am sure that other reviewers have told the storyline so I will just hit the basics. Jane lives in South Carolina and is the owner/reporter/photographer for a small hometown newspaper publication. Baran is a Warlord 300 years from the future sent to protect her from a JumpKiller (Serial Killer), also from the future. The bad guy in this book is scary, he likes to play with his victims before he slices and dices them, then takes a turn having his fun with them. He has time jumped and commited murders all through time.

The things I loved about this book are many. Jane is a strong female, she is not just waiting for the big strong man to come save her. She does her own share of saving also. She doesn't have any of the hang-ups that we see in a lot of romance novels. Baran, now here is a hero! Besides looks, and I could talk about that all day, he is so alpha. The part that sets him apart and made me fall in love with him was his soft side. He tries so hard to always be tough and in control, but he cares about the people he is trying to help, even people he is just meeting. I won't give away the plot, but there is a scene where he comes upon a wreak and it really upsets him that he knows the lady inside the car is going to die before they can get her cut out. He gets her out even though he gets hurt in the process. He has a tender heart and Jane can see through his tough guy act. Baran has a partner, a timber wolf who talks through crystals around his neck. He is a walking talking library of knowledge. He can download any info into his computer implant and then pass it on to Baran. The thing I loved is he is such a smart mouth, funny, has his own personality.... wolf! Angela Knight has really brought these characters to life. I could picture Freika (the wolf) chasing Jane's housecat, calling out "here kitty kitty" LOL He had his own thing going on, and Angela did such a great job writing I could see it all in my mind. There were times I was laughing out loud reading about him.

Angela has came up with a wonderful new future world that I would love to read more about. I hope she will do more Warlord stories. I fell in love with this one. I liked that the book didn't have fillers in it, you all know what I mean by filler, sometimes it is like the author needs so many pages and just repeats or tells you the same thing a hundred different ways just to fill pages. This book was NOT like that! Each page had new things and I couldn't wait to see what would happen next.

If you have not read this one, get it today. It is well worth it. I have already put this one on my keeper shelf and have marked my calender for future Angela Knight releases. All I can say is, please Ms Knight, write faster!! You have fans out here waiting on the next book. Angela Knight is a name to watch out for in the future. Good Luck Ms. Knight.
