Whether you like Dave Barry or not, this book cuts through all the normative, geopolitical, pseudointellectual crap and tells life like it *really* is. I don't agree with maybe 5% of what he has to say, but 95% of it is, IMHO, the shockingly, humiliating, real life truth. Hidden behind Dave's humorously cynical, wittingly sarcastic writings, is the bare naked, genetic, evolutionary truth. It's hilarious ... not so much the content which we all know darn well to be true, but Dave's flagrant disregard for authoritarian, media-driven, pundit culture. He tells it from the trenches, not from the out-of-touch white castles. He manges to make me LOL (for real), with a love of real life, pretty much for the whole journey. You are a gem, Dave. Spreading memes of the right kind.
The main reason to read Dave Barry is borderline adolescent humour that makes you laugh until you're ashamed of yourself. This book succeeds admirably in that regard.
Occasionally the humour is too adolescent, or Barry decides that he wants to be sort of serious. These moments are meant to be tolerated, and are not otherwise particularly memorable. Just keep on until he once again makes you split your sides laughing. Simple as that.
