5.0 out of 5 stars What you will miss if you don't read this book!
One night I woke up around 2:00 am, so I decided to read. The only new book I had was this one, so even though I didn't think I would like it, it was better than lying there awake. When Cara began to be followed, I was very scared and very hooked. Finally, a couple of hour later, my mom came to check on me and made me go to bed, or I would have probaby stayed up all...

3.0 out of 5 stars What I remember
I gave this book only three stars because, I don't remember very much about it. I was probably 11 or 12 when I came across this book in the library, and I read it, and I remember liking it alot. If you're looking for advice on how strong the plot is, whether or not things flow smoothly and if the characters are more than paper thin, then I'm sorry that I can't help you...

5.0 out of 5 stars What you will miss if you don't read this book!, May 14 2004

When Cara began to be followed, I was very scared and very hooked. Finally, a couple of hour later, my mom came to check on me and made me go to bed, or I would have probaby stayed up all night. Needless to say, I couldn't put it down and I would recommend it to those who like adventure, mystery, sorrow and magic. Age eight to eighty-eight.

5.0 out of 5 stars Into the Land of the Unicorns, Mar 31 2004
By
This review is from: Unicorn Chronicles Book I: Into the Land of the Unicorns (Paperback)
This book was AWESOME! I loved it! When I first picked it up at the library, I was in like third grade (I think) and didn't care much for it then (when I think back, I can't believe that I didn't want to read it). But then it like haunted me or something so I went back and picked it up. I loved it! Ever since then, I've always considered it one of my many favorite books.
In Into the Land of the Unicorns, Bruce Coville launches you right into how Cara and her grandmother are being followed the second you read the first sentence. While they try to lose the follower, Cara is told by Gramma to take her amulet and jump off the roof of a church. Half-believing that her grandma is crazy, she does and lands into Luster, a place for unicorns and other magical creatures to live peacefully. Cara teams up with Lightfoot, a unicorn, and other creatures to to complete her grandmother's request to find the "Old One."
If you like adventure and fantasy, this is the book for you! If not, still read it! It really is great.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not Sappy!, Mar 18 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Unicorn Chronicles Book I: Into the Land of the Unicorns (Paperback)
A lot of people think this book is really sappy. It's NOT.They say the unicorns are gentle and kind. That is kinda true. They can be fierce if need be.This book pulls you into a world of magic and wonder. The characters are fascinating!Coville describes everything in such detail! The trilogy was left unfinished. It's not Coville's fault! You don't find as many good books like this one much anymore.I'll give anyone who reads this review, buy these books!I have read each book twice-so I know what I'm talking about.READ THESE BOOKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If, however, you're wondering if you should buy this for a kid 13 or younger, then I say, buy it, because it's a fun story for kids, because when I read it, I really wasn't old enough to care about plots and characters, just as long as the book entertained me. Which of course, it did!

She meets dragons,a strange monkey-like creature, and of course unicorns. She also finds her grandmother had been there and was very popular, along with that she finds out a lot of strange things about her past. This magical story about a little girl in a big world pulls you in like you are there. She goes to Luster (the other world) which has problems because of her arrival, but she has problems of her own. This is an excellent book. READ IT!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A truly enchanting book!, April 25 2003

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Unicorn Chronicles Book I: Into the Land of the Unicorns (Paperback)
This book is awesome! It is a combination of fiction, mystery, and adventure, and the best part is that there's absolutely NO romance(my kind of book!).
Cara, the main character, is an orphan who lives with her grandmother Morris. Abandoned by her parents at an early age, her world is shaken up once again when a mysterious stalker starts hounding her small family-and that's only the first chapter! Her grandmother gives her a special amulet, and sends her to Luster, which turns out to be the land of the unicorns.
Within the boundaries of Luster, Cara finds adventure at every turn, and befriends very unique characters, including Lightfoot, a rebellious teenage unicorn.
With the help of her new friends, Cara must help to save her grandmother, and the whole unicorn population before it's too late. While doing so, she must discover whether blood is really thicker than water, and the outcome could be potentially dangerous.

4.0 out of 5 stars Modern Fairy Tale, April 4 2003
By
This review is from: Unicorn Chronicles Book I: Into the Land of the Unicorns (Paperback)
Coville spins a fine yearm for young adults in the first entry of the "The Unicorn Chronicles." It has all the elements of a classic fairy tale without the distant setting. The author introduces a wide variety of likeable characters and a sinister villain. This is good for older "young" adults who want light reading or actual young adults who want something good to read.
The plot moves steadily with little preamble, though at times both characters and actions seem a little flat.
All in all a good read; the second one's even better.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Different Bruce Coville Book, Mar 19 2003
By
This review is from: Unicorn Chronicles Book I: Into the Land of the Unicorns (Paperback)
The fate of Luster, the mystical kingdom of the unicorns, lies in the hands of a young girl and her loyal companions. But a dark Hunter stalks them, and a hidden enemy seeks to destroy their realm.
This has been my favorite fantasy book for nearly eight years, and I have not read another to equal it. I first read this book when I was 9; and at now 17, I still read it with the same enthusiasm I had as a fourth-grader. Although Bruce Coville is generally considered to be an author of children's horror, he breaks away from his usual style of writing. This book is in no way questionable, and there is no reference to black magic. The plot is original, unlike many of today's fantasy books; the story is simple yet moving; and the characters are well-developed and memorable. I recommend this book for readers of all ages.
