Top of the World-or Bust,

This review is from: The Contest (Everest, Book 1) (Paperback)
The short novel, Everest:The Contest is so unique and creative that everyone should read it to understand how you can express yourself. The novel keeps you reading until the last page, and when your done you want to rush out to buy the next book, even if it's midnight. The main characters Sammi, Tilt, Chris, Dominic, Z-Man, Perry and Cap all have personalities that will remind you of Jar Jar Binks only in a good way. You won't forget in a million years. Just when you think you know whats going to happen, everything change for the worse or for the better. You make the decision. The way that everyone in the novel helps each other is just unique. You can learn so much from this book while still have fun.

In one of the parts of the book the people have to execute people because of conflicts. For example, they took out Chris and put in Sleepy. The only reason they did that was because everyone would argue a lot. Some of the people in the book , for instance , Captain Joey took out a lotof people , they also added people too. Also in another part , I mean the whole book tells about the training to climb MT. Everest. The reason why they tell about training is because they don't really climb yet. Joey is training his team to get ready to actually get ready to climb MT. Everest. I think that is very smart. The last part I am going to tell you about the book is why they are going to climb MT. Everest. The reason is because they want to reclaim a dead body. This reason is I don't like this book because this is not what I am interested in. It is a good book , but I don't like it. My favorite part of the book is when people are trying to find the V for Everest. The books I am interested in are scary stories.

Climbing The MOUNTAIN of ALL MOUNTAINS,

This review is from: The Climb (Everest, Book 2) (Paperback)
Everest is a wonderful series by Gordon Korman. This book has 151 pages and is the 2nd book in a three book series. The genre is realistic fiction. The book starts out with the characters on the path up to Mount Everest. The main characters are Dominic, Perry, Sammi, and Tilt but the true main character is Dominic.Dominicï¿s braveness is probably the most useful thing he has on the fierce Everest. He is brave to climb Everest, to not be very worried about his HAPE, and to rescue the This Way Up team near the top, or summit, of Everest! Dominic is also determined because he wanted to climb Everest even though he just had HAPE. Also he wouldnï¿t give up looking for the This Way Up team and he wanted to get a start at climbing Everest when Cap said to wait. Dominic is willful in a couple ways. That is because he went up to rescue the This Way Up team when Cap said to stay where he was, he started to climb Everestï¿s base when he was told to wait, and he just doesnï¿t listen to directions. The book Everest 1 and Everest 2 are good books to compare because the are in the same series. They are different because the kids are climbing on different areas, one is boot camp and one is the real mountain, and there is a different amount of kids. They are the same because they both have climbing in it, the books, there is a different amount of kids, and the kidsï¿ personalities are the same. That is how the two books compare. I liked because it made me want to read more and more and never put the book down.

I started reading this book with my ten year old son. I found it quite interesting...so interesting that I read the whole book after my son went to bed. I can't wait to get started on the next. My son struggled because of the vocabulary used. But that's good. It challenges him and he learns while he reads an intriguing story. My son can't wait to find out what happens next. I won't tell him of course.

This is an awesome book. It is by Gordon Korman who also writes a great series called Island. This series has 3 book; The Contest, The Climb, and The Summit. I think this author is very good at describing the people's personalities and also there is a variety of personalities. This book is about 20 kids that are all trying to be the youngest kid to climb Everest. There are 5 wild cards that are picked by something to do with collecting wrappers and bottle caps and they have to spell EVEREST. Cap Cicero, a very well-known and great veteran climber has to pick 4 out of the 20. I won't tell you who the 4 are but I will tell you the main characters. They are: Dominic, Chris, Tilt, Cap, Sammi, Bryn, and Perry. Thiss is being sponsored by Summit Athletic Quest in Colorado. All of the kids have to go through a month of boot camp and Cap Cicero is making the cuts during it, him watching everything you do. They start to climb EVEREST and then......... READ IT ITS AWESOME

From The Bottom of The World to The Top,

This review is from: The Contest (Everest, Book 1) (Paperback)
Everest, The Contest is a great book for both boys and girls to read. I think to bring sand from the lowest point in the world to the top is really cool. Dominic's brother is not going to Everest. Even though he wanted to, he was not picked. Chris, Dominic's brother wanted him to bring up the sand in his place. I like how Dominic just focuses on trying to save Bryn, from the icefall while Cap Cicero is yelling at him to get out of the icefall and get back down the mountain. I really like the fact that the author did not chose for Ethan Zaph to go with the expedition because he didn't even train with the team.I also think that for Bryn's replacement they should have chose Chris. He was a better climber than Tilt and he had more experience. Tilt Crowley should not go because he is a bully and he gets mad when somebody beats him to the top of a hill or a rock. Tilt also is not a team player and Tilt annoys other members of the team like Cap Cicero. I would think if you had a person on the team who is not very honest and loyal with the team, then why should he be put on? Tilt just wants the record and will not help anybody else, when on the other hand Dominic helps his teammates like when they were climbing Lucifer's Claw, he helped Bryn. But, I am sure that Dominic would like to have the record of being the youngest to summit Everest, but not to get into fights about it. This is one of my favorite books because of all of the extreme climbing and all of the risks that they take. It teaches you loyalty among friends and how to be a team player. You know you can really depend on someone if you can climb Everest with them.

Everest, The contest,

This review is from: The Contest (Everest, Book 1) (Paperback)
This book is called Everest by Gordon Korman, and when you read this you will not feel warm but just plain cold. It's all about survival and skill to live on the most tallest peak in the world! 19 kids fighting for the top of the world , EVEREST. Working at a boot camp isn't much fun but if you want to be the youngest kids in the world to climbing up everest it is worth it and with a man watching your every move you better do good for making the team. This book just draws me into the book and I can't stop reading. This book is great because it's just like the book Shipwreck and that's a good book also so read that book too. In the beginning of the book it is quiet in the book but when you get in the book a little more action starts to come and you just want to keep reading it and then go to the other books as well. So come and read this great book if you like the ice and snow and I hope you like it too as I did that's all.

The Climb,

This review is from: The Climb (Everest, Book 2) (Paperback)
Everest 2 the climb is so awesome I read it twice! It is in a series of three books. The first of many reasons you should read this book is because of the author. The author's name is Gordon Korman. He writes the kinds of books to where you have no idea what is going to happen in the end. For example, a sherpa, a person who climbs Mt. Everest, is dehydrated and seeing things. When he walks by he says that he sees tiny silver coils all over him. Dominic is scared because he thinks they might be tubes from when he goes to the hospital. But when Dominic climbs Mt. Everest, he carries a slinky that he was going to throw off the top. When he gets to the death zone though, the metal slinky freezes and busts all over him. These were the shiny coils on him. Another example of why this is such a good book is because of the excitement. When Dominic is trying to save one of his friends he decides that the only way to save him is to slide down the Khumbu Icefall using his pickaxe and crampons to slow him down. The last example is when Dominic is trying to break the world record of climbing Mt. Everest at the youngest age. But Dominic is only thirteen and weighs half as much as Ethan Zaph, the holder of the world record at the age of seventeen. So do you think he can do it? Find out for yourself in this non-stop action book!
