Entertaining, Fast-Paced, Tongue-in-Cheek Witty Adventure!,

This review is from: Alcatraz Versus the Evil Librarians (Mass Market Paperback)
This one is geared, I think, toward the 9-12 crowd, though YAs will appreciate it... oh, and anyone else who likes witty, fun, entertaining books by authors who don't take themselves too seriously. A blurb on the back of the book called it 'a cross between Lemony Snicket's series and Artemis Fowl', but I'd hesitate to give it a comparison - I think it stands on its own!It was very funny, absolutely ridiculous, and kept me reading from the first page to the last. And I was THRILLED to come to the end and find out there's a sequel in the works. I thought I liked Sanderson's adult fantasy - but I think he has a real gift in writing for the younger crowd. I'd recommend this to younger male readers looking for something to try (or older males... my husband read the description on the back and has added it to his TBR pile!). Really, my words here can't do it justice. Go read it instead. :)

This review is from: Alcatraz Versus the Evil Librarians (Hardcover)
Alcatraz Smedry has gone from foster home to foster home due to his bad luck at breaking everything. His foster families believe he breaks things on purpose, but in Alcatraz's mind it is all by accident...or is it?After setting a kitchen on fire Alcatraz is rescued by his grandfather. Alcatraz has never met his grandfather before, but he appears the day after Alcatraz's thirteenth birthday (showing up late is his talent) to make sure Alcatraz has received his inheritance from his incognito parents. Once the grandfather shows up the book takes you on a journey through the crazy and exciting world of librarians. I rolled my eyes numerous times throughout the story, but the story was compelling enough that I did finish it and yes I did cause millions of people to scream out in pain (you have to read the book to understand that statement). This book was in the young adult section at my library (maybe the dinosaurs put it there to cause a diversion) and I think it might be more appealing to a younger audience, especially younger males around the ages of ten to thirteen. |
