5.0 out of 5 stars A cool book by a really good author!
Have you ever got separated from your friends for the whole summer?

Well Lena, Carmen, Tibby and Bridget are separated for the summer in their lives! Lena is very pretty but she does not want to show any of herself. Carmen is sensitive and thinks she is so fat when she is not. Tibby, on the other hand, is cool and a little bit goth; her friends think she is...

Have you ever got separated from your friends for the whole summer?

Well Lena, Carmen, Tibby and Bridget are separated for the summer in their lives! Lena is very pretty but she does not want to show any of herself. Carmen is sensitive and thinks she is so fat when she is not. Tibby, on the other hand, is cool and a little bit goth; her friends think she is selfish. Now Bridget is really different and special (because her Mom died) but she is very sporty and really good at soccer. One day when the four girls go shopping they find a pair of jeans. The funny thing is the jeans fit all of them (they are all different shapes and sizes). So they all go to the place where their moms became friends. And they decide the pants will travel between the four of them. They also make rules for the pants. Lena is going to Greece to see her grandparents. Carmen is going to visit her dad. Tibby will be staying home. Bridget is going to a really good soccer camp. Lena meets a guy in Greece who is very nice. Carmen meets her dad's new family (which she never knew he had). Tibby meets a girl named Bailey who is very sick right now. Bridget has a good time at her soccer camp, and she also makes a lot of friends. So they all end up having a good summer. Will they stay friends?

I really liked this book! I think Bridget is the coolest. Also Ann Brashares is a really good author because when you write her a letter she will answer all your questions. I should know, she wrote me a letter!

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read for all teenage girls, July 17 2004
By

This is one of my favorite books of all time and one every teenage girl should pick up at some time or another. Brashares skillfully weaves together the tale of 4 very different girls' adventures over one summer bringing them together by the means of a magical pair of pants representing their friendship. while the idea of the magical pair of pants may seem a bit farfetched to some, this story couldn't be more true to teenage life. Both humorous and heartwrenching, i enjoyed every page of this book. i especially enjoyed the quotes that appeared at the beginning of each chapter. i think every girl can relate to one of the characters in some way or another. I find it almost scary how much i can relate to Lena. My two best friends (who are a lot like Tibby and Carmen) also love this book and we've started our own sisterhood v. similar to the one in the book, which has made us even better friends.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this book!, July 14 2004
"The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants?" you might ask.
All the people (well, at least, me.) who have read it will say "Yes. This is a great book. The idea is very creative. (Magical Pants?). The characters are fun and believable. Carmen, Bridget, Tibby and Lena were best friends since they could remember.
They always spend time together in the summer, but in this particular summer, they have to be apart. They discover that the pants Carmen had all along were magical!
They decided that the pants should be passed around the world to each other so they would be together without actually being together!
Ann Brashares is a great author, I could almost actually feel the sadness/anger/whatever emotions that the character is feeling!

This book is not like any other!!!

(REAL NAME)
This book is not worth buying. It's just another typical teen novel except more confusing. The whole switching from thoughts of characters is kind of cute, but Brashares could have at least wrote which character you're going to think from because it sure is confusing sometimes.
Okay, I admit I cried when Bailey died, but just because Tibby's story/life is decent does't meanthe rest of the book is. Camden's story/life is plain predictable. Bridget's is a waste of time. And Lena's is just like any other book's.
Overall, DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON A BOOK LIKE THIS! It`s okay to take it out of a library or borrow it from a friend, but beware this is only time-waster. If you have enough time on your hands to spare than go on and read it.

From my blog 'Reading In Winter'

When I started reading Ann Brashares's book, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, I was surprised that I couldn't remember reading it a first time (which I had), but instead I remembered the movie, having watched it recently. In my eyes, the characters in the book resembled the familiar faces in the movie'despite the fact that the movie was not entirely like the book.

Even though a lot changed from what I remember (from the movie, not the book), it all still works out. So many times I read a book and THEN watch the movie and am usually disappointed (don't even ask me about the Slumdog Millionaire movie night!), but I'm happy to say that both the book and the movie were fantastic. Ann Brashares does an amazing job not only of showing a reader an in-depth look at each character, but of displaying emotion throughout the book.

The best part, for me, was the fact that the pants'which is what the book is all about'weren't as magical in the way the girls thought they might be. Putting them on didn't mean that boys fell all over you, or your family instantly understanding you, or made you automatically a different person. The pants helped each girl understand their emotions, helped them see their life through a different set of eyes. Love was realized (in some cases), but it wasn't as easy as the girls may have hoped.

I recently bought the second book in this series at a used bookstore and can't wait to start reading it ' if the first book is any indication I know the second one will be a wonderful read, as well.

4.0 out of 5 stars The sisterhood of the traveling pants, Oct 6 2010
I think this book was a great page turner. I liked how the girls resembled very relatable and recognisable characters, mostly because I'm close in age with them. I really liked how they transition from girl to girl, but I was confused at the beginning how they switched who would narrate their summer. Once you get the hang of how they rotate between them it's set out well so you don't get bored with each characters summer. Overall I enjoyed reading this book. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes girlie books. I rate this a 4.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lovin The Pants!, Sep 7 2005
By
Tina (Ontario, CA) - See all my reviews
Four girls of completely different shape and size and one pair of pants that fits them all perfectly. This is the story of The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. Ok, so the title doesn't exactly make you want to dive for the last copy on the shelves, but let me tell you that after reading it, you will find no better suiting title.

Lena, Tibby, Bridget and Carmen have been best friends since that one September in which they were all born. They have shared both happy time's and sad, basically living the lives of the average teenage girl.

What I liked most about this book is that it has both reality and non. The reality in this novel comes from the girls themselves and how none of them live the perfect life and each of them encounter their own problems. The non-reality in the novel is none other than the pants and how they so magically fit each girl even though it is scientifically impossible due to the difference in each girls body type.

After the pants are discovered, the girls decide that, although they will be splitting up for the first time and they will all be spending their summer apart, they will stay connected by the pants. With that, the pants are past back and forth from girl to girl throughout the course of the summer, with a letter attached enclosing the very details that went along with them. They did this to prove that just because they weren't together physically, it didn't matter because they were mentally.

Before I give away too much, now's a good time to go diving for The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.
